    L-body firewall heat shield Mopar # 4266764

Looking for L-body firewall heat shield off of a GLHT or Shelby Charger. Mopar part # is 4266764, NOS or good used. Bigger cars used a similar but different heat shield.

I’m assuming the plane Jane cars received a different piece?

That is what I have. Plain Jane 37k mile 88 Omni from Austin, TX getting a nice stout turbo transplant. Gave up trying to find a GLHT as clean as this one to transplant powertrain into. To my knowledge, NA cars didn't come with the firewall shield, just the tunnel and floor shield. At least not this 88 L-body. Gave my buddy the complete powertrain to transplant into one of his Rampages. Removed dash to install 85-86 GLHT dash wiring, so one of my s-60 harnesses will bolt up. Welding and bolting in all the GLHT reinforcements to radiator core/motor mount area. Trying to do the transplant correctly like it was born there. Those shoes are original Goodyear Eagle GT's from my 85 GLHT! 33 years old and counting...

OK. I saw a fair looking NA car in the yard last week, which is why I asked. Good luck in your quest.

    Looks great Todd!!

Is it red interior?? (my favorite interior color)

Hoping you are going to do a thread on your build, reinforcements etc.

Your work quality is among the best and is very inspiring !!

    Thanks
    Randy

I'll take a look in my stash tonight. Still got a big Rubbermaid 60 gallon tote of parts from a Shelby Charger I parted years ago..

If you cannot find one, a P-body heat shield work pretty good in an L-body. That's what I ended up using in my Scamp. The areas where it is different you'll never see anyways...

Reply with quote not working for me. Already tried the larger car heat shields. The p-body (and all others) makes contact with brake line that runs across to passenger side of car. Doesn't fit quite right. If you adjust it so it doesn't hit brake line, then holes for HVAC don't line up. I suppose I could relocate brake line to clear shield. I'll probably make one out of aluminum if I can't find one in decent shape.
I've seen what happens when you run a turbo car without heat shield in place. That plastic HVAC box eventually melts! I had to repair/replace/modify one in the past on friends car.

Weird, mine went on with little trouble. But the Scamp is a non-A/C car, and an 83. I know they changed a bunch of stuff in 84, maybe they changed the brake lines? Mine went right behind the shield with no real issues...

Dr. Johny Dodge I think I would have rather removed the carpet and dealt with that, rather than remove the dash, find a replacement HVAC, and then relocate the evaporator discharge on the other side of firewall. Come to think of it the shield was there, but this car had a TBI header and was road raced. The HVAC didn't survive the race. Similar burning, "but plastic smell" opposed to your rubber smell.
Yup, Chrysler put shields in place for a reason...

Yes Randy, red interior. That is funny you like the red, my least favorite Omni interior color is red. I have noticed the red cloth seats and vinyl, seem to hold up better than most of the other colors. Going to leave it in because interior is like new in car.
