    1986 Shelby Charger

Took the 86 charger to the track and it was very slow almost embarrassing slow but still fun. Atco has a scale and I weighed the car and it was 2450 and all I removed was spare tire. That’s pretty light. So anyway I want to know has anybody ever weighed stockish daytona 88 turbo z. Always hear they are heavy. Just curious thanks

How slow was slow? So long as you have a good time, that's all that counts. IMO the days of us being some of the fastest guys on the track with bolt-on or home brew mods are long over. There is no doubt that we can still represent the club and the 20th century with pride.

Well it is 100% stock with no tricks just removed spare tire lol. Made 3 pass with a goal of 17.2 and first pass 18.9 second pass was the best 17.0 and last was a 20. Not bad as I bought the car buffed it insured it registered went right to the track

For a bone stock TI car, that's pretty darn good IMO. I ran 17.10s in my Lancer last year at SDAC. In stock form, our memories are faster than the times on the board.

From what I remember, my bone stock 87 Shelby Charger ran 15.3 in the quarter back in 1988 other runs were 15.50 to 15.60

Original Gatorbacks. I think the trap speed may have been 102 mph.

I am now thinking I may have had the MP stage 1 LM installed. But that would have been it. That said, I did get it to run 15.20 that I'm sure of.

    Re: 1986 Shelby Charger

My bone stock 85 GLHT (non AC car) ran 15.85 @ 87 almost exactly what the car mags ran. Dropped in a stage II DC (not MP yet) LM and car went 15.0's @ 93. The original 85 DC was a huge gain! 2.25" mandrel bent exhaust with cat and car then ran 14.60's. Spearco intercooled in fall of 1987, and it went 13.90's @99 MPH first time out. By next summer more boost and was down to 13.20's @ 107. This was in full street trim, pump gas, and on DOT tires (Yokohama A008r autocross sticky tires). 37 MPG driving from MPLS to Great Lakes Dragway (Kenosha, WI) too. Then the a525's started letting go at an alarming rate! Lost one going through top end of track at 109 MPH. $3500 in damage to car, it was very ugly. Diff pin broke in two and dropped, and had no where to go! That is when it stopped being so much fun...

    Re: 1986 Shelby Charger

back in the day there was a mechanic at the dealer I used to go to that had the diff pin blow out of the 525 in his charger
it went through the case into the bellhousing and then out and through his rad

I said to him , good thing it didn't go the other direction

ever since I've saved a nice square piece of 3/16 steel plate about 16x16 to go on the floor below the peddels ....I think this build , I'll finally make sure I use it lol
