    24 Hours of lemons

Getting the bug! Any one in the southeast interested in putting together a car to compete in events in and around the south? I have some track time at AMP and hope to get on Road Atlanta ( 30 minutes from my house) this summer.I will have all my safety gear this summer too.I'm a pretty good wrench and have metal fab skills to help with a build.

I’d be interested. Time and money are tight right now but both should free up in a few months. I’ve got a slew of automotive resources to offer. I’m in Dallas Ga and work in Marietta.

I would suggest joining a team for gaining experience first.

    i am in jacksonville.
I have a 740 volvo with a chumpcar lega cage and seat ready to go.
just needs a weekend of work to be ready to race.
its 4.10 rear gears with a locker diff. 5 speed.
double sway bars front and rear. Kirkley seat. Sparco wheel.
N/A for now. if you are intersted all it needs is a battery. and a weekend of redoing the wiring to be "race car" ready and take if off the stock wiring harness.
I have gauges and the switch panel. just want to convert it to switches and relays for fuel pump fans and starting.

I use the turbo 5 speed van as a tow vehicle.

If you need a driver or team member keep me in mind.I'm 1 hour from the GA SC border on 85. I do track nights at AMP and will be getting some track time in at Road Atlanta this summer ( will be a plus for the December race) I will be finishing buying all my safety gear this summer too. I have no wheel to wheel car experience but I have raced motorcycles so I have the competition mind set and experience. My wife also does Track nights and scca solo in her Miata

    That is sound advice.
Also, just be forwarned that just because the cars are supposed to be "$500" doesn't mean that this won't get expensive. After the car is built, brakes, tires and fuel add up fast.

    Re: 24 Hours of lemons

It's get expensive fast for sure.

Car is *$500*, but realistically a properly prepared car will set you back at least a couple to a few thousand. Consumables like tires, oil, gas, and travel cost also need to be factored in. Then you have personal safety gears, plus Hans Device. One Hans Device will set you back $400, race clothing and helmet will set you back another $400-$600.

Our car's engine lasted about 90 minutes before one of the rod let go during the last event... sigh....

Oh yeah, I'm sure that the cage, seat and harness alone will cost several times the cost of the "500"dollar car

cage and other bracing will be $2K at least. mine came out of the chassis shop at $3K with a seat mounted.. seat 100-300$. harness $150. Fire suit 500. helmet 300+. lemons specific things like fuel cans . catch cans. shut off switches. battery, rollcage insulation.. 400-500$.
transponder and communication set up is another few hundred.
tires will be 400-1000$ a set. depending on if you wanna be competitive or just have fun.

gets expensive. but its still cheap compared to faster groups.
