    Need battery negative cable

I am trying to find a negative battery cable for a 1991 Dodge Shadow, 2.5L turbo. It is part of the engine harness, PN 4265 148 but the negative cable portion may be the same for non-turbo engines. The battery clamp is split and I have so far not found a good repair end since there are 3 wires in it. I am not worried about having to do some splicing, but do not want a "used car lot" clamp on end.

4625148 is the engine harness not 4265148

and yes the battery cable is: "Part Of Engine Wiring"

2 AWG would be the closest size for adding up the 3 OEM wire sizes.

Quick-Cable stuff is the gold standard IMO.

Another option would be to use a marine style or ordnance style terminal and crimp individual ring terminal lugs onto the wire/cables.

    Re: Need battery negative cable

NAPA actually has some prefabricated battery cables that are good for adapting to our cars. If they don't have the configuration you need in the store, then browsing napaonline.com can be a good option. A lot of them have molded in lead battery terminals just like stock or even the band clamp style like newer cars have. They might not be listed under the application you want, so it can take some browsing.

Here is a thread I started long ago about battery cables. I couldn't link directly to the NAPA catalog, but there are part numbers that hopefully are still relevant.

Here is one of the Napa ones on my '91 Daytona. I held it in a bench vice and filled the end with melted solder using a mapp torch, then shoved the cables into it while the solder was still liquid. The heat shrink is a Gardner Bender product designed for underground cable splices (Menards or Home Depot), with the wax-like sealant that flows out with heat. I did the same repair to the positive terminal nearly a decade ago, and it's held up great. In fact, I'm picking up a couple more this afternoon for my truck. Get the ones rated for 4 gage wire, which are a nice snug fit for your factory wires.

    Re: Need battery negative cable

I finally took a nice long 4 ga one I had bought for my truck and then had someone give me a near perfect set (Ford copied Chrysler on bundled cables) so I went into the harness which I was going to do anyway to add 5 wires, Oil pressure, a pair for a high speed cooling fan and a compressor cutout switch. I went to the splice where the block ground and alternator ground attach and worked out from there. When I reached the area where the body ground and 4 black/xxxx ground wires turned up toward the cable end I used the small pigtail for the ground wires and moved the body ground to the side of the 4 ga cable, everything was solidly connected then thoroughly soldered before taping with friction tape. First picture is on the engine, second is laid out like the original was.

    Re: Need battery negative cable

I scored one of these off of Amazon for $10 a while back. They're very well made. I usually go through the time consuming process of peeling the old terminal off of the cable rather than just cutting it. It's a pain, but the extra length is worth the effort IMO.
