1986 New yorker automatic HVAC question

What exactly is this system called? The reason I ask is I am going to be shooting some trouble on it and will document it however I would like to include in the title the appropriate name so in the future someone searching it will be able to find it.

Here's a pic of the head unit.

EDIT: Hmm, it appears I do not have permission to upload a photo.

Anyhow if I can figure out the real name of this system AND figure out how to get permission to upload photos I will start a thread regarding how it works and what I have done to make mine function properly.

So far from what I can gather it's unique to 1986 and 1987 only even though the later control unit looks the same it is electronically different.

    Thanks for any help

Chrysler called it ATC, automatic temperature control.

Ok, i've been searching off and on for 2 hrs. Where in the world are the "supporting members" options on this forum?

Is it just me or is it buried / hidden deep in this format?

    Thanks.

Give me a day or two and I'll scan in the ATC tech manual and upload for all members.

I think I still have it, might have sent it to Cordes though.

    there are two different systems
one for K car and one for J body lebaron

the controls module on the box and wiring don't interchange between the systems

and anyone wanting to add it must first have an 87 &^ box with the bungs on the bottom for the mode door motor

I am interested in any possible electronics diagnosis for the control module. I have a bad control unit I still want to try and fix. Even though mine is an '89, testing and such should be similar.

    Thank you!

I know that these parts were R&R, not a bench repair, but that's what I'm interested in.

Re: 1986 New yorker automatic HVAC question

Hey thanks for all the posts and especially thank you to Gary for actually having the documentation and being willing to share it.

I am really looking forward to what that book may say.

I suspect *I have done zero component testing yet* that the module that takes the signal from the head unit and controls the blower motor speed is fried. I also suspect that the giant transistor that's mounted to the heat sink is the most likely part to fail.

I will share anything I can figure out on this.

EDIT: I guess I never described my issue lol. My issue is the blower motor is stuck on high anytime the car is on whether or not the ATC head unit is on or off. The only way to stop the blower motor is to pull the fuse or turn the ignition off.

Here's the post I created after this one with photos.

I don't believe I have a copy of that manual, but I can double check.

Just wanted to say never mind on all this for the New Yorker. I found and am picking up an 89' Mini next Tuesday and all my efforts will be into that one.

The New Yorker will be used for parts then scrapped.

    Thanks folks.

Will do. I really only plan on keeping the engine, trans and the epic robot voice. The voice will be retrofitted into the mini.
