    Headlight Adjusters

Does anyone know of a good quality replacement headlight adjuster for the early style sealed beam units? I need to replace one on my 87 NYer, and the Dorman ones are laughably bad. They wouldn't hold in place and broke when I attempted to force them in far enough to pick out the wings so it would stay.

Once I have this replaced, I'll have a perfect set of Hella E code housings with relays and nice bulbs on yet another vehicle. I was driving home last night and a white road sign was blinding me with my high beams on.

my only suggestion would be the scrapyard
anything that survives removal is probably good to go

and there would be lots of chances to try

I used the Dorman ones, but I took the screws out and boiled them in water for a few minutes to soften them up before installing. I still broke a pair, but the ones I managed to install have been in there for a few years now without breaking.

Yeah I take the screws out before installing, takes a bit of care still but works better.

The ones I ordered from rockauto for my lancer sucked. I want to say they were dorman. I didn't realize the screws were way longer and cracked the plastic around where the adjuster goes in. Had to get creative to fix that. I reused all the old screws.

Dorman has known about the crappy brittle plastic for 3 years that I know of and still they do nothing to fix the problem. TRY TO CONTACT THAT CUSTOMER SERVICE LINE. Stuff the new adjusters in the rectangular holes and the little "tensioner ears" break off. BTW the HELP stuff in all the parts stores IS DORMAN STUFF TOO, Jer

I figured that out the hard way also. On the H bodies the cavity for the screw is too small on the outside one if you don't reuse the original machine screws.

Nylon seems to dehydrate. bought some bad zip ties which broke when you tightened em, soaked em in hot water, less of em broke.

For sale: I have a new set of five Mopar adjusters purchased from a Dodge dealer years ago probably 2001.
Looks like the part number is 5-04334140 but there are a lot of other numbers on the package.
They were bought for my 1985 Omni GLH-T. They are for sale.

    Re: Headlight Adjusters

Yes my friend but having done that too thru' Chrysler Parts Search I found those to be probably 30 years old too and just as brittle as the Dorman crap. I bought 18 from one dealership two years ago and went thru' 14 of 'um to get 8 good ones for my '87 LeBaron coupe TI
