Has any tried to swap the log for a one piece (or 2 piece) intake manifold without changing turbo or removing head??
I am expecting to change the tune on the LM as well.
Just looking for a quick solution until the springtime.
Thanks

I remember the turbo needs to come off to get to the intake bolts.
for the hour it takes to remove the cylinder head its not really worth it.

I don't think it can be done without having first made clearance for a thin-walled socket to get the bolts on/off the manifold... If you do try it and are successful, please detail how you did it! :-)

yeah , no .. you HAVE to remove the turbo and manifold first
the intake bolts back out into the "crotch" of the exhaust manifold above the turbo (cyl 3&4) and there's only about 1/4 inch of space above the bolt heads - not enough to back the bolts out and usually not enough to get the wrench in either
do you have the correct bolts for the one piece - log , one piece and two piece differ - I forget exactly how
all are different ? or two are the same ?
It's coming back to me now, I set mine up so I could do the intake without having to take the turbo off, but I had to make some clearance on the manifolds and replace the regular bolts with socket head screws/bolts with washers in order to make it possible.
Did it probably 8+ years ago (hence the fuzzy memory) and it was on the engine stand at the time...

Plus, you will have to clearance the turbo flange on the exhaust manifold anyways.
On the TII & 88+ TI, there is a notch in the top of the turbo flange to clear the #3 intake runner.
Physical barriers aside, this would also mean re-using the manifold-to-head gasket. Not a good idea imho.

I have taken of a 2 piece intake manifold off the car with turbo in place, that car had a TBI turbo header so the turbo hangs low.
I don't see how you can take off the intake manifold bolts with the turbo and exhaust manifold in place. Log manifold maybe, but no way with the one piece or two piece intake manifold.
Thanks Guys

Sorry in all the other dealings i missed that you asked for help!
I would recommend trying to do things once. It is usually easier, but takes longer. I can't stand having to redo work.
And like Mike said, you'll need to come quite apart to get s new gasket in there also.
