360 deg Thrust bearing: Super 60

I want to freshen up my M.P. Super 60 Turbo with a 360 deg thrust bearing.

Overhaul parts would be regular T-3 correct??

Do any of our vendors carry rebuilt kits??

    Anyone have any tips?

    Thanks
    Randy

    Randy,
Not sure about vendors selling "kits", but I've bought certain gaskets from TU. Yes you want the T3 kit. I bought many turbo rebuild kits from Ron's Turbo Shop through EBay. He has nice made in USA kits. They are around $75 or so. He can custom tailor them to your needs such as oversize ID/OD journal bearings, hybrid hardware, carbon or dynamic seal, 360° thrust bearing. etc. He also does rotating assembly balancing too. Only once did he not turn around in quick fashion. His temp office worker put my delivered package under the desk and forgot to tell anyone about it! I can laugh about it now, but sort of nervous about it then. Was "filed" under desk for about a week before it was found.
Yeah best to change out journal bearings and trust bearing now before that expensive S-60 wheel touches housing. Turbonetics is the only game in town to find a replacement wheel and they're pretty proud of them.

    Hi Todd:

    I appreciate the fast reply.

After searching around I found a kit in Canada.

I haven't worked on a Turbo in years so I'm not up to date on the quality of parts.

Not that I ever was !!

If you get a chance could you check this link for any clues??

    Thanks
    Randy

We don't recommend installing 360 degree thrust bearings due to having to drill mounting holes in cast iron bearing housing. Multiple issues with this. Dissimilar metals, heat and moisture could cause mounting screws to shear when disassembling as they did in photo example. Since these holes are drilled in to the coolant cavity there is also a possibility of leaks occurring. We install steel thrust bearings with all of our precision rebuilds which will last in even the most harsh conditions.

Re: 360 deg Thrust bearing: Super 60

Upgrading to 360 deg thrust, and reasons for bolting the thrust down are two separate considerations AFAIK.

With an S60 turbo there would be no reason to bolt down the trust bearing, so there should be no issue.

Chris, I appreciate your input and assume you don't offer a kit.

Shipping cost and time is the only reason I wouldn't send it off to you.

    Thanks
    Randy
