    Post Whiteout 1990 caravan

So I just picked up whiteout recently. I read Aj's post in the minivans for sale thread and I knew I had to have it. I'll be documenting whatever I do to whiteout through this thread of course. Don't expect anything too crazy though, I plan on dailying whiteout for a while. Maybe down the road I'll have some things planned when its not my daily anymore. To begin this thread, my first things planned are to find a second row seat (going to check out the junkyards soon), find an original caravan radio, and to track down some issues with the gauges and fix them. I'll be adding pictures very soon once I can get some better ones. Stay tuned!

Tag for this awesome van. If it were a 5 speed, it would have been mine!

Sweet A new build thread for my old friend WhiteOut.

If you join or have instagram, junkcarsla loads their 20 new cars every day with a pic of each. There was a red 89 mini last week

I guess I never really took that many pics of it, this is everything I could find in the TM.com archives

Looks like another fan of turbo dodges and 1911 .45's ! I wonder when the last time 3 box minivans have been parked together like that?

    Re: Whiteout 1990 caravan

Thanks for all the compliments! Aj built a pretty sweet van here. So I finally have some time set aside to work on whiteout this weekend. I noticed the oil pressure drops at idle so I'm going to address this issue before anything else. I was thinking I would check the oil filter and see if its prohibiting oil flow, then drop the pan and check if the oil pickup is clean, and lastly get a new oil pump if all else fails. Any other suggestions?

Oil pressure drop at idle is normal, unless it drops to nothing. Pressure should increase about 7-10 pounds per 1000 RPM.

I'm not sure how correct the gauge is, but the oil pressure appears to drop almost to nothing and I hear a slight knocking in the lower rpms. Pressure builds up to somewhat normal levels just above idle but I still hear some knocking.

    Re: Whiteout 1990 caravan

its a good idea you have so far for the oil pressure.

My suggestion is to just grab another new pump. they are like 20--40$.
Drop the pan. remove the screen and pump.

"modify " the screen opening on the pick up if not already completed.
" modify " the block opening for the new pump is not already completed.
Make sure you have a nice o ring on the pickup/pump connection.

drop in the new pump and reworked pick up.
Change the oil and filter. Try a nice FL1A ford filter if you can. they fit great and they are YUGE. very nice filter ability as well.

Oil is like women, a personal preference. a little thicker and more PSI is better some times.

I would suggest taking a GOOOD look at the sender.
unbolt the sending unit and the block adapter.
Clean out the adapter really well. and Look closly at the sender for signs of leaking. both at the body and through the connector.
one of mine was leaking out of the connector pins. and was giving a skewed reading.

with new pump new filter and oil.. modified block and pick up. Cleaned out adapter and fresh clean sender... you should see all the oil pressure those bearings are going to give you.

How many miles? A little 2.5 piston slap noise is my guess at what you're hearing. Before doing any of that, buy a cheap mechanical gauge and put it on there to see exactly what you're reading. The electronic oil sending units are junk and give people all kinds of worry for no reason. I have one sitting in my garage just for this purpose. Whenever one of my vehicles starts acting funky I throw it on just to prove that it's the junk sending unit, and 100% of the time it has been.

    Re: Whiteout 1990 caravan

It's been a while since I've uploaded here, so here's whats up with whiteout. I replaced the oil pump a while back and threw on a huge ford oil filter (thanks for the tip masterjr33). Oil pressure is doing fine now. I've hit up a few yards but still no luck with a red middle row seat, however I did get a stock infinity deck I was looking for. I'm just waiting on a belt to finish up fixing the tape deck. Also I'm looking to pick up some new struts soon and replace the engine mounts. Anyone have any suggestions for struts? I had my eyes on the KYB gas a justs(for the rears at least). Oh and here are some current pictures too.

I'd rather just keep it stock ride height, or at least close to it.

I used KYBs on all four corners the same gas-a-just in the rears.

wow, the paint peeled right off that thing.

Here it is when it was being really well taken care of by it's original owner. sorry for the crappy phone camera pic.

And sitting at my shop after I purchased it for Alan.

And the original vac line setup.

And after re-arranging it, installing poly lines and my only good 90+ vacuum splitter/Elbow off the intake manifodl

And Alan and his brother leaving with it after flying up here to Spocompton WA to pick it up.

Good to see it on the road and getting some love.

Not sure why Mopar White is the only paint that peels and curls off in sheets but I've seen it on lotsa white cars from the era. A little prep and rattle can would go a long way Jared Who's Alan?

Wow it sure had changed a lot over the years. It definitely looks way different. Oh and trust me AJ I've been contemplating it....just not sure if I'd rather get it painted for real. Also does anyone know what springs would work to get me a heavier rate while keeping the factory height. From what I could find the factory springs are 114 lbs.

    Re: Whiteout 1990 caravan

So I haven't posted to this thread in quite some time, unfortunately, because I crashed Whiteout pretty badly. It was completely my fault and I ended up rear ending a big truck and bashed in the a-pillar. I've decided to part ways with Whiteout, as repairing the damaged a-pillar is beyond my skills. Before I crashed I was able to do the majority of things I wanted to with Whiteout. I was able to go to the track and even reached low 10's in the 8th. I've since pulled the engine and harness and AJ is getting a brand new a413 for his projects.
