Hey Everybody!! --- (Hi Doctor Nick!)

Anyways... I've been having issues with getting fuel pump to mount inside of the hanger cup correctly.

With the fuel pump pushed through the rubber bushing mount thingy, I cannot get it to sit flush like its supposed to. Managed to mangle up my hands and slicing some fingers open but no such luck.

Since it IS the gas tank and the fuel supply to the motor, its pretty obvious you wouldn't want to introduce any unwanted chemicals into the fuel system.

I asked two of my mechanic buddies who both agreed that petroleum jelly would be an okay lubricant to use to help in seating the fuel pump to the cup. I had to clear some cob webs out of my brain but if my chemistry knowledge is correct, wouldn't the petroleum jelly break down over time?

I understand that if left exposed in air the jelly will coagulate, but even if it turns all nasty and stuff, wouldnt it break down anyways?

What do you think? Good idea or bad idea?

All knowledge and thoughts are appreciated!!
