Hey all, I am wondering if there are any parts besides the A543 trans axle case itself that cannot be used in the A523 trans axle. I am going to change from 3.85 ratio to the 3.50 ration gear set.

The only substitute for cubic inches is cubic dollars, how fast can you afford to go?
are you working with a 3.85 large spline and a 3.50 small spline?
I have a 3.85 :1 in the car, I'm looking to go to 3:50 to 1.

My present trans is a 1991 large input.

523 & 543 guts are all the same.
I suspected that but before I pop for that trans I wanted some further info.

The only 'gotcha' I can think of, if it applies to anything your using for donor parts.
1990 transmissions use a different 3-4 shift fork that is slightly wider than the later ones because the fork pads are different and unique for that year only. The 'black' fork pads from a 520/555 will fit and work just fine though. If you were to use the H shaped ones from a 1991 and newer unit on the older fork they would install but quickly fall out during use.

1987 Shelby CSX #418. Long term rebuild and restore ?
That is valuable info for anyone considering this swap. Thanks.
