    Warning light

Recently, my Caliber has developed an issue where it will occasionally have a rapidly fluctuating idle. As of yesterday, I'm getting an intermittent lightning bolt warning light. It's giving me no codes however. Click image for larger version.

Reading the other forum, it sounds like the throttle body is dying (I haven't posted anything on there yet because Mouser seems to have something against me). Does this sound like an accurate diagnosis, or is there something else I should look for before I drop the money on a new one?

When I got the lightning bolt on my CSRT4 I replaced the TB and all was well. But from reading over there it seems like sometimes a new TB will be ok for a spell then the problems come back.

remove the TB. clean it well. reinstall. 50/50 shot to fix it. its either dirty and sticking. or the electronics have failed.

I did clean it recently when I installed the catch cans before SDAC, which required removing the intake. And now it's giving sporadic bursts of throttle while driving, so I'm going to just replace it.

That thing with Mouser, it happened to me too. I don't think he likes the old school guys and I got sick of the goat screwing jokes/adolescense right away. I haven't visited that forum in quite a long time because of it. I wish Mouser would just sell his car and just go away finally and get on with life.

I'm sorry I can't help you though; I still haven't seen the lightning icon show up in my car but I only just passed 50k on my CSRT. This thing is so dead nuts reliable I'm afraid to mod it despite the stockpile of parts I have for it. And that forum sold me on a TON of aftermarket parts from "supported vendors"; most of which I have yet to use.

Aaron at RealTune turned out to be cool.
    Needswings parts are top notch.

    anybody else....meh.

    Re: Warning light

The thing that bugs me is that everyone seems to take everything he says about the cars as some sort of holy scripture, because it seems the majority of the forum are just getting into owning and modifying cars in general, unlike people like us who have been doing this since before they were even old enough to reach the pedals. I disagreed with some post he made about Generals being the best tires you can possibly get for the CSRT4 (trust me they're crap), and comes down on me like I insulted his mother or something. Then I referred to the MS1 computer being a Mopar Performance part, and he tore me a new one. Whatever . . .

Anyway, I can say that the car is easier to work on than I expected, although I still paid someone else to do the timing chain. I don't think it needed it yet, but I planned to beat the hell out of the car at SDAC-27, so better safe than sorry.

I told myself when I bought the car that I wasn't going to modify it. That didn't last long. The brakes were my first excuse to upgrade. The wheels were curb rashed and the clear coat was hazing, so they got powdered when I upgraded the Generals to Michelins. Then I heard my wife driving the car and realized how weak the exhaust sounded, and the exhaust tip was rusting, so I sprung for the CPE cat-back. Kinda pricey, but it sounds great, looks great, and it definitely improved the bottom end torque. The catch cans had to happen, because every time I took the upper charge pipe off it dripped oil on everything. With all that done, I had a blast at SDAC-26. But even though I managed to win the bracket racing (by default), the SRT4 Neons were kicking my butt horribly. Not to mention my wife consistently walked all over me with her Fiesta ST. So that led to the RealTune MS1K and the AGP intercooler, and that led to having to upgrade my clutch and some poly motor mount inserts.

Add all that together, and the Michelins just weren't cutting it at the drag strip. I could not hook to save my life. My best run in Memphis was a 14.3 at 103, and I had no traction problems whatsoever. In Detroit however, my best was a 13.97, but it was at 107.8 mph. So that led to my most recent purchase of a pair of Motegi Track-lites and some Hoosier drag radials. But before I can try them out, I need to replace a control arm bushing, and now this throttle body issue pops up. Unfortunately my shop is tied up doing a clutch job on my wife's Fiesta, because she has most of the same upgrades done as I have on the Caliber.

    Stuff snowballs quick . . .
