That’s interesting. Didn’t he also sell a cone type piece that went in there?

I'm having 4 "more plenum volume" spacers made, they're at the water jet cutter now, should have them tomorrow. Likely gonna sell 2 to recoup costs.

That's what I'd like to try.
They're ready Cordes, I know your busy with offspring but you have dibs if you want one. $150.
Shipped. Cost is admittedly high but the "draw in" process was pricey😣

Yes, phenolic.
Yeah, volume here ain't volume there. Respectfully, just what is the difference?
This spacer does add to total volume, and, that spacer allows for a far gentler short turn at the bend. In addition it insulates the top half from contact heat transfer.
Recall that this IM also has a big elbow at the entry to the TB; see other thread.

To 90% of the builds out there, prob nothing. lol As most prob wouldn't notice any difference because their set-up just isn't ever going to be dialed in enough and built to any given tolerance enough to notice. (in a nut shell, if it goes good then Great!)
What it will do in the short term, is rob the cyl of a little filling IF the cross sectional area of the runner is to small for it's length vs HP/ RPM target goals. (So you would fall short of those goals and prob make a little more TQ under the curve)
The other side of the coin is when runner volume gets to large vs plenum volume, you end up with incomplete runner filling.
Like I said, almost no one goes to that extent on one of these builds, so neither here nor there for most. I only threw that in so that no one would get confused into thinking that plenum volume and runner volume are one in the same and can interchange with zero effect on anything else.

I like the idea of insulating the upper half while simultaneously making injector service way easier.

Must be different kinds of phenolic because that doesn't look like the phenolic we machine at work. But if it machines the same then you're lucky the price is what it is. That stuff pretty much destroys machines as it gets everywhere. How thick are they? 3/8"? Probably good if you're using a stock 2 piece upper. Mine was 1/2" IIRC but then I paired it with a custom plenum that took that 1st bend out of the system. Looks good, I doubt you'll have any problem off-loading them.
Got Mine!
High quality piece.
I removed the top half on my lancer and it wasn't too bad except for screws poking out the firewall stabbing my hands. L body might be tougher.
I find the L body cars aren't as bad as you'd think back there. I have an easier time doing the WG arm clip on an L body than a P body, but that could just be me.
Splitting hairs here Rob. At the bottom of the plenum upper piece its still plenum, at the top of the lower it becomes runner. So the space is somewhere in the middle of that process IMO. Yes the Phenolic spacer is circular so its runner like in shape but I doubt the airflow has 'runner like velocity' at that point likely functionally still acting like plenum at that point but neither of us can empirically prove what were saying so I'll just say youre right and end the debate. I know you well enough to know that you like to be right all of the time
As far as the material, not to totally sure, it was at an industrial plastics place, all the *in the know* guys were at lunch or out but the owners wife(I think anyway, she had a HUGE 3-4carat rock on her finger and was in the big corner office when I got there) was nice enough to lead me into the back of the shop and I pulled this piece off of the shelf with the other black UHMWDTP (pretty sure that's what it said on the shelf) and she let me buy it. I took a map gas torch to it for 15 seconds and it didn't melt or warp. SO I'm not worried about the pieces holding up to the heat, maybe I'll try 30 seconds or a minute on the scrap piece and report back. I did notice that all the Chinese Phenolic on ebay for industrial circuit boards etc is reddish so not sure about the comparison between the materials. I'll try 20mm Chinese ebay cheapo material on the next small batch of spacers and see how that goes. Likely I wont nead another spacer for personal use for quite a while, I think RedBox is my only other 2 piece mani car.
Whoever said the material gets everywhere when cutting, you did see that I had this waterjet cut so zero dust and 'eveywhere' for these pieces

The anaconym seems closest to uhmwpe: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ultr...t_polyethylene.
If that's the case, the stuff is literally bullet proof! (Better than phenolic, IMHO )
