unidentified part in the inside of my 568

During a refresh of my 1990 568 I noticed a small part similar to a roller from a roller bearing but with tapered ends sitting on the bottom of the case. I checked the FSM and microfiche but not luck in its identification. The following picture also has a roll pin for reference.

I did not open up the diff yet.

It's been a while, but didn't they use a little ball bearing under the springs for the pieces in the selector lever area? Perhaps they used those at one time?

I checked the selector area but don't see anything obvious. Nor did I see anything in FSM. I will have another look tomorrow.
    Thanks

That goes in a hole in one of the parts on the shafts. I think it's one of the metal pieces that make one shaft move the other. It goes in between the two metal pieces. When you take out the shafts you will see the hole it goes into. Use grease to hold it in during assembly. It just sits in there. No springs or anything. It may have fallen out during assembly. I wish I could be more descriptive but I've only assembled one of these transmissions. That piece fell out when I took the shafts out and I figured there was an accompanying spring but Jackson said it just sits there by itself. Hope that helps.

EDIT: By shafts I mean the ones that shift the trans not the ones that spin. I don't know what their actually called.

Re: unidentified part in the inside of my 568

glad I stoped to read this thread .. before I dig into my new trans

sounds like they replaced the small bolts that they used to hold things to those internal rods

the bolts had a pin on the end that fit into a hole in the rod , the bolt actually threaded into the piece that was to be retained on the rod

.. great arrangement until you powershift the pin right off the end of the little bolt

.. then you need a new trans when the piece tries to go between the pinion and ring gear - it splits the case at the secondary shaft's front bearing

sigh , you know how I know .. 555 , not so tuff as you might wish lol

Detent for your reverse shift shaft. Had to buy one from the dealer about 15 years ago, don't think they're available anymore.
