    12 Button Traveler Mod

Has anyone successfully hacked a 12 button traveler to output other info? All of them that I have are not functional so I did a little reading. It sounds like it would be a huge job for me, but it should be possible to control the 14 segment display on them with an Arduino or equivalent. I think it would be astounding to have one display the 5v WBO2 output and the 5V boost output. Heck, even if it just displayed the raw voltage, I could learn to work with those units.

I thought about that because I already have code to read a temp sensor and display it on an LCD. I really want to keep the stock look if possible, and in the back of my mind I would love to make a switch that will toggle between normal function, and custom functions.

I know it's not what you are asking about, but there are supposed to be auxiliary functions that the 12-button navigator can do, like show injector pulse width and such. I remember somebody figuring out those functions and posting how to access them a *long* time ago. I remember that you had to hold a combination of buttons in order for it to work.

Well, if it can do boost pressure, then I'll just keep a separate AFR display. It would be nice to have both on one screen, but why do all that development just for AFR?

So, who knows the secret dance to get this to work?

Does anyone have a link to the pinout on the 12 button unit? We could probably surmise the possible functions based off of that.

That is the style which came in the Daytonas and I think some of the Lebarons. I was after the square ones which take the place of the cassette holders in the H body cars. The plug is the same for both styles though, so that's some good info for people looking to repair one or the other.

Thanks a ton for that. I should check the 89 FSM to make sure it's the same with the H body cars.

It looks like they're just making a lot of calculations based off of the fuel sender, the injector signal from the computer, and the SDS signal.

I seem to recall one wire was called "logic" , coming from the LM - it was one of the wires you needed to splice into to swap in a navigator computer or traveler - probably fuel flow (?)

I put a 12 button navigator in my GLH. Omni and charger never came with one.

I did the same thing in my GLHS years ago. I thought it was pretty slick to have that info available.

As I moved to Microsquirt, 6 LB* fuel flow information will no longer be supplied to 12 button navigator, distance, vehicle speed, and time are all the information I will see from it.

    Re: 12 Button Traveler Mod

Very cool option, I have been saving one for years to try and install.

Someone used to supply wiring diagrams/swap info and maybe recalibration for +40's etc.

Anyone have any info, I'm electronically challenged, with a poor memory!!.

    Thanks
    Randy

    Re: 12 Button Traveler Mod

well , if you want to put a navigator or traveller into a daytona, 87 &^, I know most had the connector taped to the harness unused behind it's mounting position
a VERY base model might not have it but if the car has power windows I'd bet the connector is there for sure

86's MIGHT have it but I can't remember now off hand

I'd suspect this applies to all models 87 &^ except the L's and P's

wireing diagram is in the factory wireing manual

    Re: 12 Button Traveler Mod

I'd think it should be there
pull the cluster trim plate bezzel, the big one and check the harness behind for the connector

if it is there the biggest challenge becomes trimming the little stash compartment neatly away from the trim bezzel
