    burning 27sf512

Has anyone had issues re-burning one of these chips? I'm using mptune with a burn2. Not sure if i'm doing something wrong or if the chips are wonky. It says "burn device write verification failed, please try again".

    Re: burning 27sf512

I've had many of them go bad. It seems like I've had a lot better luck with the ones I ordered from Boostbutton after I picked up a burn2. It seems as though My Willem unit wasn't as kind to them as it could have been. Of course, I've heard that there are a ton of knock off units that'll initially function, but won't allow for a lot of erase/write cycles.

i assume you've burned chips with the burn2 before? if not post a pic of the chip in the burner to make sure it's seated correctly. also, make sure the burn2 device is displayed in mptune on the bottom left of the screen.

I should add that I had a burn2 go bad on me a couple years ago. I went through all of their troubleshooting steps and they requested that I send it back in order to receive a new one. The CS was great.

Yeah i have burned the chips. I just got it all together, i figured it all out and burned my first chip which is a BB stage 4. I found that my idle is too rich so i adjusted a couple things and burned another chip. I found i needed more adjustment so I tried re-burning the first chip and it says that error. I tried re-burning the second chip just to see what would happen and I get the same error. I burned a new chip after that and it worked fine.

Get your 27SF512's from Xenocron. Anything from China is suspect. For a while, there was a cheaper version which allowed only a couple hundred re-flashes. So-called 'MTP'. Don't use those.

I got burned once, and from then I got all my chips from Xenocron.

I'll have to look when I get home. Bought them from eBay.

The chips from Moates are OK as well, right Rob??? That's where I bought mine.

I bought some from Moates, no issues so far.

I did get that verification error before, but it was because I had the chip indexed to the wrong end of the burner. DOH.

Moates gets them from Xenocron, so they should be fine.

From what I understand, maybe it's just internet lore, but Xenocron bought the last 'official' stocks of the 27SF512 in the DIP package. So, they are the only place to get them. There's also a place in Ohio (I forget the name) that has a bunch they bought from Xenocron. They sell for ~ $5/ea.

Basically, if you get them for less than Xenocron's price, they're probably not legit. They sell a 10-pack for $45. If you find one on eBay for less than that, I'd stay away.

I really doubt you'll be able to use them. Good luck.

I've already burned 3 of them and verified they work in the car. They just won't let me re-burn them is all. 1 time use.

Same thing happened when I got burned. Basically, some of the China chips are probably OTP's (one-time programming) with a counterfeit label. You should be able to use them, once.

Glad to see I'm not alone with that. Although, I'm pretty sure I got very few or even one use out of some that I bought from Mouser.
