    Flywheel bolts...again

I have massive confusion about which flywheel bolts to get. Rock Auto lists Dorman 7/16 x 20 x 1" long, part no. 14557. Yet Dorman's alternate/NOS part numbers do not match the Mopar-specified 6501197 (or later 6503464).

I found a set on eBay, "Mr. Gasket Mopar Flywheel Bolts," for $15 for the 8-bolt set. These have a slight unthreaded shoulder, unlike the Dorman ones. I have these coming. Thin head.

Also, should these not be METRIC, not 7/16 x 20?

This is for installing a new flywheel onto my 3.0 V-6 when I put in a manual instead of the automatic trans.

Can someone clarify this? I've seen these bloody bolts offered for a ripoff price of $44 each, for as low as $2 each, and for $4 plus change elsewhere.

They are metric and your going to need the oem ones or maybe the ARP's. Anything of the mr gasket stuff is for V8's.

The ARP 254-2801 are reported to work (No hard confirmation by myself) but only with a stock style flywheel, they are made for the Ford Modular 4.6 V8.

The bolt you are looking for should be M10x1.5x23

Thanks, guys. I popped for the Mopar Parts Giant ones at $4.18 each, with ripoff shipping of nearly $14, twice what it would cost to ship USPS Priority Mail.

Next, I need a SHIFT CABLE (I have a Mopar crossover cable), normal part number 4504342. I've found the same company has a Mopar one for $122. Rock Auto has an ATP Y1513 for less than $40. But I've read here about the Push-Pull custom cables. Can I buy one of them from them, or as it was noted, do I still have to send them a cable to copy?

I have a set of the 6503465 here for the automatics (same bolt just shorter and threaded all the way to the head) The thread pitch is most certainly M10x1.00 as just verified with a starrett gauge.

Thanks, 135SOHC. I had a hunch the threads would be finer than 1.5mm spacing. Heck, that's 60 thousanths, or nearly a sixteenth-inch per thread, i.e. 16 tpi. The 1mm is about 25 tpi, considerably finer and more like what the flywheel's security would demand. ........R

    Re: Flywheel bolts...again

To anyone considering this task of installing a new flywheel where previously lived a torque converter, please note the original bolts are rated 10.9. This is HIGHER strength than U.S. Grade 8 bolts, and about 140,000 psi tensile strength. Grade 8's are 120,000. In other words, BE SURE to get the proper bolts, not some cheap knock-offs at the local hardware store.
