    *If* I understand correctly what you are trying to do, can you not re-drill the carrier instead of drilling/tapping the ring gear? Might be easier and cheaper.

    I had my OBX re-drilled last year for a "modified" 555 ring gear and it cost me $100 cash and I dont think it was overly complicated.

    I would have to look at it again. I believe four of the holes pretty much line up. I’m not sure why drilling the ring gear was the preferred method with the exception of the fact that there is so much meat on it when compared to the diff section. If gas prices keep climbing, I may look into this again, as I will have the ability to do it myself.

    id pay you to do mine if you be interested ( the redrill) if you go through with your project i think itd be awesome to have that low highway rpm and im willing to pay for it

    Keep us in the loop as to how that works out.

    I considered re-drilling my OBX myself but my situation was a bit different in that the existing holes had to be enlarged, but at a different bolt circle (it wasnt just a question of hogging out the holes to a bigger size, they had to be offset from the existing hole). The OBX did have a hardened surface and since they arent available anymore I decided to have it done professionally.
