    Hot coil

So my car was cutting out while in boost and I think it is ignition related specifically the coil. I had purchased this coil for my Pontiac and had it laying around so I swapped it into my 85 SC.

It seems to have fixed the miss but after driving with it connected it seems awfully hot. As it so hot you cannot hold it. Is this normal? I had an oil filled coil on before (Mallory).

Is it possible my plug wires have too much resistance?

    Thanks Ralph

That coil has about half the primary resistance of a stock coil. That could be your problem.

Yes I believe you are right. Stock coil is about 1.5 ohm and this one is 0.4 ohm. I guess I need a coil closer to the stock primary resistance. Thanks.

So closer to 1/3 the primary resistance then. Get that outta there before you burn up the coil driver circuit on the power module.

Advance Auto usually has at least one or two stock-type coils in stock for about $20.

If you use the correct ballast resistor, the coil should not overheat.
