    Data Cable for MPScan

Since boostbutton is no longer in business I am looking for a data cable that I can use with MPScan. If you have one or know of anywhere that is selling them Please PM me. Shipping will be to 46112, let me know what you have and how much you want.

    Thanks

If you are a bit handy with cabling, it is easy to build one on the cheap. LMK

    Yup,
    Here is is
    http://www.boostbutton.com/turbonato...id=cable_setup
    http://www.boostbutton.com/turbonato...ual_ftdi_setup

I use a cheap FTDI USB to TTL from ebay such as http://www.ebay.ca/itm/1pcs-FTDI-FT2...item43e1bab3da
and I make a connector using spade terminals at the diagnostic connector. Just remember to reconfig the FTDI chip for the inverted logic that Chrysler uses as shown in the second link.

PS and remember to connect Tx to Rx and Rx to Tx. This is because we want the ECU Tx(transmit) to be connected to the FTDI chips Rx (receive) and vice versa.

    Re: Data Cable for MPScan

So if I buy that cable you listed all I need to do is find which wire in the cable is Tx, Rx, and Ground and put a spade connector on each of them.

Then plug Rx to the Ecu's "Data Out" port on the serial connector and plug Tx to the Ecu's "Data In" Port and ground to ground and that's it? At least for physically setting the cable up. I know you have to set up the computer to communicate with the cable/ecu but those instructions seemed pretty easy to follow

    Re: Data Cable for MPScan

I double checked the cable I listed above and it is 3.3V rather than 5V, so it may be OK but maybe not. I need to remember that Chinese electronics change frequently without notice.

Here is exactly what I have from the vendor I used http://www.ebay.ca/itm/5V-3-3V-FT232...item258e94fc29
and I jumpered the 5V Vcc as shown
Here is a picture of my USB adapter https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B3...TExVldtY1A5eGc

and here is my connector with a gob of epoxy, note that I also bring out the ASD and 12V lines https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B3...TM2ZDVWS3U3Nkk

For those wanting a professional connector you can order the raw BoostButton PCB from OSHPark in a package of three. Note that Rob's board also has input protection diode.

Thanks for all the help chromguy. I really appreciate it. Last question here hopefully. What do you mean by you bring out the ASD and 12V lines? I see that there are 5 lines going to the board and I only thought there was 3 lines needed? Are the lines going to +5V and DTR on the board the ASD and 12V lines? Sorry if this is a dumb question. I am just very knowledgeable when it comes to stuff like this.

Yes, you are correct only three lines are needed. I have the ASD and switched 12V lines attached for a different purpose. You will require ECUTx, ECURx and ground which are the three you mentioned.

Sorry for bumping but is swapping the Tx and Rx wires required if the settings are changed in the cable as per the boost-button ftdi setup page?

those settings only invert the signal. they do not swap the signal. tx/rx from the ecu attach to the rx/tx respectively on the ftdi cable.

Do you happen to know the values of the diode and the resistor? Also what flat "pins" that Rob used to connect the board to the plug on the car. Trying to build my own for using on other cars for tuning and diagnosing, I have Rob's cable "hardwired" into my car.

The resistor and diode are only for reflashing the SBEC. If you are only using a SMEC, or only datalogging, you don't need them.

I think they are your common sized blade terminal.

I will be using this on SBEC and SBEC II cars, so I am thinking I will need the resistor and diode.
