    1984 Dodge Omni

So I figured I should create a project log for my 84 Dodge Omni that I bought from my brother last July. I needed a new daily driver since my 87 Horizon no longer had a floor or lower doors. My plan was to use most of the good parts from my Horizon and put them into the Omni roller that I got. I also was wanting more power than what I had in with the MPFI 2.2 in the Horizon. Since I already had a SMEC harness from the Horizon and a 2.2 T1 from my 88 New Yorker, I figured I may as well turbo it.

Here is the car shortly after I brought it home.

With a pickup load of parts.

    I scrubbed clean the underhood.

And coated it with some POR15.

I soaked the knuckles and other parts in acid to remove the rust before they were coated as well.

Same with the rear drum parts.

Then I started on the engine. It is a 88 2.2 T1 with around 80k miles on it. I had to pull the head because an exhaust manifold stud snapped. It had a new head gasket in it since I replaced it while it was still in the New Yorker.

Head studs from my 2.5 in and the head on.

Block painted with a mock up valve cover on.

    Getting ready to drop in.

    And it's in.

With the New Yorker's old valve cover on it.

I put the larger rear drums on it from my New Yorker since that was converted to rear disks.

New shoes and equipment on. Also new wheel cylinder on the other side.

New axel and brake hoses to go with the 60mm van calipers from the Horizon.

I put a good set of hatch struts I had laying around in it.

It also got the struts and shocks from my horizon since they were only about a year old. I also put GLH springs I purchased a while ago that were supposed to go in the horizon at some point, in it. I replaced all the front bushings and put in new lower control arms.

And put some snow tires on it to be ready for winter.

Then I turned my attention on the interior.

Wow! I like where your interior is heading. I have always loved Omni's. I learned to drive a stick in my dad's '86 GLH. Looks like it will be fun!

Thanks, it's been an interesting learning experience. I basically learned how to use a sewing machine and how to sew from youtube.

    Re: 1984 Dodge Omni

So after driving my Omni for the past year as a 2.2 T1 and 520 manual, I decided it was time to change things up. I wanted an automatic for driving in traffic and ease of installing remote start. My brother's boss had a 2002 Stratus that was abandoned and let me have the power train for a very reasonable price.

Pulling the 2.4/41TE out of the 2002 Stratus

    The 2.4/41TE

Cool swap. Can you give any more info about the engine mounts? I did a search for Turbogod on EBay and came up blank.

I'm also using the turbogod passenger side mount. Works great so far.

Finally off of jack stands. Need to wrap some of the wiring, get the exhaust finished, and hook up the power steering. Runs really good though.

This is one of a very small number of 604-swapped cars ive even heard of on this forum.

Yeah not many people keep the 604. I was sick of driving a manual in heavy traffic and wanted to keep overdrive. So I was wanting to find a 2.4 and 41te when my brother remembered his boss had an abandoned Stratus I could take parts from for cheap.

I still have to figure out power steering on it, my pump hits the frame rail. I did drive it to and from work today and it drove great.

    Manual rack?
They're really not that bad. I have been running one in the race car for a while, but
    it's not daily driven.
