Saab 9-3 Bosch Blow Off Valve?

Saabs have been showing up at the local yard. I've seen 3 of them now with a Bosch blow off valve. I can't seem to find any info on their usefulness, effectiveness, durability, etc.

Does anyone have any experience with them? Are they worth getting?

Here's a pic of one in there today.

    Thanks,
    Jeff

Looks similar to the Bosch that WAS on my hahn-kit neon. Not the same, mine is from a 3000gt. It worked fine for a long time, but a spike to 10psi killed it. I think it had a 0-ring in it that blew out? It still functions but seals. I may have got a bad one though. Id still try it....

The Saab forums say those Bosch plastic guys start failing anywhere from 10psi.

    This says the same..

The similar looking Porsche ones are supposed to have metal bits inside to hold higher boost.

The Saab 0280142103 one is no good.

Porsche, Volvo, & Audi with the last three part number of 0280142108, 0280142110, or 0280142112 works much better.

The plastic bosche bov/compressor bypass valves were crap nearly 20 years ago, and are still crap nearly 20 years later.
Clearly the best stock bov for normal to higher pressure applications is the 1g talon/eclipse one. They are easily modded for high pressure reliability.

I ran 18-20 psi on one of those for a couple years with a Mitsu and a Garrett, never had a problem.

Ran 22 psi on mine, no issue for years.

Re: Saab 9-3 Bosch Blow Off Valve?

If you've ever bench tested one, you'd see the diaphragm inflate like a balloon and swell into the outlet port, where there is a sharp edge. Eventually this sharp edge will cause the failure at higher pressures.
Although you two and others might have had some crazy luck with them lasting somehow, make no mistake these bov's are not worth the plastic they are made out of. For anyone considering one in a higher-than-stock boost, you are better off with other other options.

I believe there are a few different Bosch BOVS that have the same dimensions but are not equal. I think the better one may have been used on a Porsche.
Bill Baker used a Bosch for years on his shadow (probably close to 30psi) and I don't think he ever blew it or noticed it leaking.

Anyone know if first generation Talon/Eclipse BOVS are still available new? They work great and are easily modified to hold over 20psi
