    Tapping sound from Engine

Yesterday on my way home from work a heard a tapping like sound from the engine for few sec and then it stopped. "Do I have a bad lifter?" was my thought. Later that evening it was much louder, So I pulled the Sundance into the garage, removed the valve cover and I took a picture.

The valve cover was not off since Jan 1989....

Hard to tell detail, but it looks like cylinder #1 lobes are coming apart? And why does it have a slider cam?

Yes I can see what your are referring to but that is not real. Perhaps a combo of the LED overhead and the old ipad.
Lobe are near perfect, as I use Mobil 1 5W30 since my first oil change at 1000miles. Don't all the cool guys run sliders these days? LOL I have a roller ready to go but that is lower down on the list

The problem was caused by the cam bolt on cam cap #2 was completely loose. It was bouncing up and down and hitting the valve cover. Easy fix, I assume not torqued correctly by the factory

Geez, glad you found it before it bounced around your valvetrain!

    Thanks

There is no logical reason to call an Engine a motor.

Especially since it is my DD, I was hoping that the valves were OK. But I did myself a favour and replaced the 87 Turbo valve cover with a 89+ Turbo valve cover with a one piece gasket.

    Re: Tapping sound from Engine

twice last year I lost a rocker arm and the second time the valve stayed hung open after the valve seat finally dislodged all the way. Drove it home 20 miles.

How I did not grenade something is truly a miracle... These engines are incredibly tolerant of lots of things being less than perfect.
