Why? Most people get rid of the two fuel pump system in l body first chance they get.
Randy,
Yes I have done that in my 85 GLHT. Running 88-90 TBI assembly in-tank feeding into Bosch 041? pump. Been like that for 20 years or so. I noticed the old stock Bosch external pumps on the L-bodies were very high pressure. It would peg a 120 PSI gauge instantaneously when squeezing return line briefly. For a while I ran a TBI internal pump feeding the stock Bosch external one too. Did this when my internal priming pump failed. That seemed to work very well too. Either set-up was overkill for my 280 HP log manifold car.

Hey Todd:
I appreciate your experienced reply!!
Wayne is considering using a 1994 pump module in Mean Mini to try and eliminate low fuel level starvation at launch.
The intank module is supposed to have better low fuel level starvation qualities than a baffle.
I encouraged him to give it a try as the module has the ingenious jet pump built in.
Like you I never had an issue with the L body dual pump system but many were changed via TSB??.
I don't even remember why but I don't think it was reliability, was it??
Thanks
Randy

I agree that the design looks like an improvement with many sound benefits.
The problems i've identified with trying to use one may vary depending on brand but:
The Spectra Premium one does not appear to come apart alowing the replacement of the actual electric pump from the module canister.
In using one, and replacing the electric pump witha higher output unit, what sizing do you need to step up to to ensure proper fuel flow at your injector rail? - the jet action requires some flow from the pump discharge to be bypassed through the venturi for the jet suction effect.
I don't know how you would then spec out your pump flow capacity.

Randy,
I was always under the impression that many L-body pumps were replaced due to excessive noise and not reliability issues. I actually had a parts guy tell me they would replace mine at no charge if I complained a little about the noise to the service manager. Of course this was when car was only a couple/few years old. Never did, because my cars was fairly modified at that point, and I didn't want techs out beatin on my car. You know they would have.
I once acquired a GLHT that was not running for like 10+ years. Upon fixing all the previous owners attempts at getting it running, at startup the external pump had a steady fast drip coming out of body of pump. Within 30 minutes, gaskets swelled and never leaked a drop again! I like parts that repair themselves (lol).
