Why would you want to do that?
    John Laing

"The sole condition which is required in order to succeed in centralizing the supreme power in a democratic community, is to love equality, or to get men to believe you love it. Thus the science of despotism, which was once so complex is simplified, and reduced . . . . to a single principle."
    -- Alexis de Tocqueville

"One of the methods used by statists to destroy capitalism consists in establishing controls that tie a given industry hand and foot, making it unable to solve its problems, then declaring that freedom has failed and stronger controls are necessary."
    --Ayn Rand

"To evolve, you don't need a Constitution. All you need is a legislature and a ballot box . . . . things will evolve as much as you want. All of these changes can come about democratically; you don't need a Constitution to do that and it's not the function of a Constitution to do that."
    -- Justice Antonin Scalia

If your totes are out of room, just throw the cats in the scrap pile. Are you inspected for them in TX? If not, I see no reason to run one.

Acknowledging the problem is the first step toward solving it!

I would only be worried that you'd kill the cat due to heat.

    Re: cat in downpipe?

mounting it that close to the turbo will really kill exhaust flow.

why exactly do you want to run a cat if you dont have to? have SJW neighbors who are nosey or something?

Very SJW area I live in. Thought about mounting in the pipe that goes perpendicular to the rear section but that area seems real tight.

I thought they had to be close enough to the engine to light them off, but far enough away not to kill them?

If you are thinking about one of these CCs don't do it:

    https://www.summitracing.com/parts/m...FQuAfgodJAQI7w

BAD IDEA!!! The substrate of a catalytic converter occupies space. That's why the body of a full size CC and muffler expands to allow enough space through the substrate without reducing flow.

One of our customers was having drivability issues with his Omni. Backfiring, loss of power, glowing turbo, etc. We got it up on the lift and found one of these miniature CCs. Once we replaced it with a full size CC and had it back on the dyno it gained 60 HP. Also, back pressure kills turbos. If you have a loud exhaust it would be better to add a resonator or larger muffler to please the neighbors. Whatever you do stay away from the Mini CCs.

*If* I had a car here in Cali that was *track only* and had a bolt in/bolt out CC/test pipe I like to put Flowmaster knock off single chamber race mufflers where the CC/test pipe was. So front race muffler and rear muffler of choice. What do you have in that space 4Speed? Here's the one off of Woody sitting in the rain The bung is for the WB.

There wasn't much to the car at that point, so that may as well have been taken outside a couple feet away. I have an oval magnaflow muffler on my NYer now and it's side exit. I record about 83-84db even at freeway speeds in the car.

Measurement at ear level ten feet from the car toward the rear.

I have about 12" to play with. Time to hack the exhaust up me thinks.

Holy cow. Let me see what muffler I have in the NYer for a reference. My Shadow was quieter than that with no muffler.

Perhaps not. I had an exhaust which ended under my black Omni and it played the whole car like a drum. It was insanely loud considering there was a pretty big muffler under there. My Daytona was pretty loud too with just the muffler and cat cutout of it. I think there's something to the 3" exhaust letting it quiet down some.
