    Fuel tank baffling

I've seen a few fuel tank baffle or fuel slosh issue threads recently and I figured I would share something that I recently seen as a fix. The rock bounce/crawler guys have been doing this apparently for a while and it seems to work. There are even commercially available products that simulate the effects.

Those are Wiffle balls in there. They are fuel resistant (USA made name brand ones)

There are also commercially baffle rings that do the same thing.

Thought this may be a solution for lack of fuel tanks with the built in baffle.

Very cool idea. Don't think it would work well with a level sender though.

some sort of cage around the level sender might be doable

This is pretty genius! Reminds me of balance beads, which Im sure are also popular with the offroad crowd.

    Re: Fuel tank baffling

I don't have any performance car experience with the enclosed fuel pump modules but the theory with the canister and internal jet pump intrigues me. No need for any tank baffling.

I think they started around 1991, very cool, anyone running a performance vehicle with one??

    Thanks
    Randy

Don't the Neon guys just modify that style when going turbo? I don't know what they do to them, but I'm guessing it's for the fuel return that they probably add?

As far as I remember, they would defeat the internal regulator and add an external regulator with the return line dumping into the filler tube.

Well, I would say the later canister style should be good to go then. A Neon should pull enough lateral Gs to starve them if it were going to be a problem.

There might be a difference in the shape of the tank as well.
The mini's have a fairly shallow and box shape, so without a baffle it is a big problem with low fuel level and pulling some hard launches as i now know.

    Re: Fuel tank baffling

Check the shape of the 1st gen Neon tanks. They look pretty flat to me, but I've never had one out of the car either. They do have the FP positioned on the pass side of the car like the L bodys though. A hard right would certainly starve it if it were a problem IMO.

    Re: Fuel tank baffling

The genius of the module system is the"jet pump" part sucks fuel like a vacuum cleaner.

The container part is mostly to prime the jet.

I don't know about the returnless systems, but they probably have the jet pump.

    Thanks

    Re: Fuel tank baffling

The newer returnless systems have a "bleed" that creates the flow through the jet pump to fill the bucket.

    Re: Fuel tank baffling

I always wanted to see how a Neon tank would fit under an Lbody. I guess I should have done that the last time I had the tank down.
