    transmission condition,,quick check??

I have several MTX 555 and 568 that I purchased, but I really don't know the internal condition.
How can I determine the condition of the internal easily?
How much can I tell by removing the diff cover, end cover and selector cover? Is this worth while?
I have never worked on a TM trans, only Toyota. I do have the FSM
    Thanks
    Regards,
    Miles

You can get a pretty good idea of the overall condition of the gearset by pulling the shifter cover to see the dog teeth.

I checked my 555s and 568 and the dog teeth are not flat like Harry's...which is good!! Slight wear but looks OK.

IIRC the FSM states that the service limit on the dogs is half the tooth left.

This is one of my favourite troubleshooting tools, for my final build I will use the old school "take it apart" technique for my 568. I find the x-ray glasses are good enough to inspect a 555 internals as the case is thinner.
