    winter tire studs..

sorry if this is a little off topic.. my dd (205k) needed new winter tires and i forgot to have tire rack install the studs..
(forgoing the discussion about the pro's and con's)

any suggestions to where to get studs and can they be manually installed (w/o a gun)

ps.. i'm in NJ, called a few local shops and they don't install studs

I ran a set of General Altimax Winterforce tires (without studs) on my Shelby Dakota and never had any issues with Wisconsin winters.

I used to pull 4x4 trucks out of ditches in glare ice situations with my Neon that had studded snows. Lost of places will stud them, but NOT after they have been driven on.

Maybe worth a trip down to the TireRack facility in Delaware if they can do it for you.

    Re: winter tire studs..

most shops won't install studs once tires have been driven on 'cuz each "stud-hole" need to be cleaned out with e.g. a dental pick - otherwise the stud won't seat properly.. very time consuming
