    Dodge Omni 024 Help!!

i just got a 81 omni 024 with the 2.2 and this is my first time messing with these. Can someone fill me in with what type of ignition system is on this and is there any conversions to swap over the carb to a non electronic one. I want engine bay as clean and open as possible with less stuff to mess with. Also there is no smog testing where im at

From memory, the Holley 5220 is a non feed back carb and the 6520 was the feed back style.

Many report the non feed back from a 1984-1987 Caravan 2.2 work well.

Chevette's, Pinto's and Vega's also used a 5220 carb but I don't know if the linkage is the same.

    Thanks
    Randy

I know I used one from a Ford Maverick on my Horizon 20 years ago, but the specifics on what it took to make it work are fuzzy at best.

I would buck up for a new Weber DFEV.

I came to realize this summer that Chrysler had a huge variety of these carbs over the years.

I was always under the impression that the 5220 was a non-feedback, mechanical secondary carb, while the 6520 was a vacuum secondary, feedback carb. But I have a very good friend with an 84 Rampage that was originally a California vehicle that has a mechanical secondary, feedback carb on it He swears it's the original carb. So does that make it a 5220 or a 6520????

I would agree with Mike though, i you want to keep it carbed, pony up the dough for a REAL Weber DFEV. I'll warn you ahead of time, make sure you buy it from a Redline dealer(several on ebay). The box should say Redline on it.

Under no circumstances buy a carb from webercarbsdirect.com. They are fake Chinese copies, and will give you nothing but trouble...

I'm no expert but both 5220 and 6520 were available with VOS, Vacuum Operated Secondary.

Possibly both were also available with a mechanical secondary as well??

Sounds like your friends carb is a 6520 VOS.

    Thanks
    Randy

Maverick 6 cyl were all 1 bbl and V8's 2bbl so Mike must have made an adapter...
