While my 87 interior is out, I thought it would be a good idea to improve the sound dampening.
All suggestions are welcome.

Lots of stuff is available.
Dynamat, and it's competitors. Eastwood sells a version.
I've heard good things about Lizard Skin, but never used it personally.
When I restored the Scamp I used this to re-line the firewall and floors: http://www.albrightssupply.com/Jute-...z-p/jute40.htm Worked pretty well for me, and it's cheap... A can of spray contact adhesive is all you need to apply it...
while it won't fit directly into a shadow , the 87-9 J body lebarons came with an optional sound reduction system
it's severial plastic , foam backed panels that close the bottom of the dash to the firewall
one piece attaches to the bottom of the heater box , a strip attaches to the bottom edge of the glovebox and the large plastic panels attach to those two parts
I've had it in two daytonas and the difference was remarkable but unless you have the heater box out for some reason already it's a pain to install it all
closing up the bottom of the dash is probably the most effective sound reduction in an otherwise stock car
stuff i put in the van.

dirt cheap. aluminum backed. they self stick.. i put them on the firewall under exhaust.

sprayed a few cans of this under the car as well.
Lizard Skin. Works better and weighs a fraction of Dynamat.

I lizardskinned the glhs front to back and then went over the trunk area with raam mat. The difference is amazing. Also did the inside of all the doors too with raam mat.
Thanks everyone for your suggestions.
I like the Lizardskin idea, any idea how much I need for a P body?

heard good things about it. http://www.lizardskin.com/calculator.html
I used this in mine. Car isn't back on the road though. If you read the reviews on Lowe's site, they are all from using it as sound deadener. lol

Instead of lizard skin, I used another sound deadening brand made by Hy-tech (Hy-Tech SC#1000) Same stuff as lizard skin, but much cheaper. Also you can just order the ceramic microsphere product(about 15$ for 1 gallon) and add it to your own paint. You can basicly use anything and match it to your cars color and voilą! You got your carrier for application. Did my GLH from firewall to tail lights and roof. Unfortunatly did not do my doors because the car was rustproofed and was to lazy to clean everything. But I can testify that it made a difference.

Spiro440,
How much did you need?

That stuff is asphalt based and has a lower melting temp than the butyl products like Dynamat. Open your car door on a hot day and the first thing you may notice is the smell. The second thing you'll notice is the squishy stuff under your carpet, and that some of it peeled off completely.

before you use any of the REAL truck box roll or spray on liner type products you MUST first scuff the surface and clean it or it dosen't stay stuck - it peels off in sheets and chunks
plenty of complaints on the f150 site about shops that fail to bother to do this
when I quoited my blue turbo z I only used the under dash pices from the J body lebaron I mentioned before and an extra beat up roof liner
I trimed the edges of the beat up roof liner and slid it in above the good roof liner that was "my interior"
that made a difference both in reducing sound and made the car stay warmer in the winter
if you use asphault based undercoating on the inside of the floors a couple of large garbage bags laid over it will keep the carpet from sticking to the floor - which is what I did after repairing my floors - but I used rubberized rocker guard for the "undercoating on the floors , inside and out
the crappy tire rubberized rocker guard dries hard and shouldn't stink after it dries
- I would try a test piece to be sure things haven't changed since I last used it building that car back in the mid 90's though
When I had the headliner out of one of my cars I added some carpet underlay to the bare roof.
There are probably more modern products but that's all I had laying around and it wasn't messy.
Made a huge difference in sound/noise reduction.
Some vehicles use moisture resistance spray foam insulation in the A, B and C pillars and other areas.
I cleaned/sanded my exterior floor and sprayed on black rubberized rockguard but it didn't last well.
Probably better on the inside, but it's not as thick as a good sound deadener.
It's paintable, so might be O.K. with a few coats as it totally dries.
Thanks
Randy

If you want to get rid of low range sound, the only way I've found is to put mass dampening in. Its basically a thick sheet of rubber you insulate from the nearest panel with a foam. I did this to my cherokee and the only thing you can hear is the wind hitting the windshield.
as a FYI and addition to this.
just went throough the van
using 3m contact adhessive. and FELT from michaels/hobby lobby. removed all the plastic panels and stuck it on the metal.

I also put this
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1
on the inside of the door panels and on the back liftgate. large flat sections.
cut it into triangles and sorta collaged it on . I also hit the spots under and behind the speakers with that.
getting alot quieter.
