SRT-4 Intercooler vs Stock Turbo II

Anyone done comparison between the two?

I'm thinking that based on surface area, mass and factory supported HP its better than the factory Turbo II, but that is just supposition.

    Any hard data?

On a neon forum they mention 280-300 hp supported before efficiency takes a dive.

I'm thinking my CSX is getting an upgrade.. and I have access to an aluminum welder.. I think I can snake the plumbing through the wiring openings in the radiator support..

My memory isn't so hot, but here's how I remember it going. In my shadow, I usually change more than one thing at the same time, I went from a daytona rad/ic to a slim volvo unit, but also upped the boost and it seemed to pick up a little. When the volvo cooler broke on a steep curb, I went to the srt-4 unit and at the same time added a relocated air filter above the cooler, and in front of the rad. Without a boost change, the power went up tremendously.

Sorry, no back to back, but I feel the srt-4 cooler at that power level (maybe 230-260 whp) made an appreciable difference over the stock one. Purely speculation, but I think it's worth it. I also ran a 12.77@107 with the srt-4 cooler, never came close to the 12's with the stocker.

I had one in my Silver Shadow years ago, but I wouldn't run one again due to its width. The juice isn't worth the squeeze from a packaging standpoint IMO.

    Have any measurements?

The end tanks are not important as I have a welder, band saw and plenty of aluminum at hand.

I can get measurements. Here is a page I made when I put one in my Shadow years ago. It's a crappy writeup, but it illustrates what I'm talking about with the width. I'm sure you can tell that I cut out a TON of material from the core support for it to fit. I don't think there is any way for it to fit between the headlights regardless of what I initially thought.

I believe some people have pushed 400hp through the stock cooler on a dyno before. I don't know how many seconds they could have stayed in it before the charge temps were unhealthy, but from an airflow perspective i dont see that it would be limiting to any 8v setup still mild enough to be running a stock IC. My only direct experience is that the OhioRob 2.4 van i now own has a stock SRT-4 cooler and went 13.3 with it at full weight (minus benches, i assume).

Dont push the red button. You hear me?

SRT4 intercooler core size is about 24"X6"X3".

Overall length of the intercooler is 32" not including the mounting tabs on either end.
