    External Voltage Regulator Mod Problem

I just completed the external voltage regulator mod on my 86 Daytona Turbo Z that has been rewired for a Turbo ll SMEC. Lately I've been having a intermittent charging problem due to a failing voltage regulator circuit within the SMEC. Now I'm getting a power limit light with code 41(open field circuit) and code 46(battery voltage out of range) after completing the mod. I believe that the power limit light is being triggered from the battery voltage being too high now because the light doesn't come on with the voltage regulator unplugged. The battery voltage is high with 15.05V at the battery and 14.77 at the voltage regulator. If I was troubleshooting a over charge I would assume the voltage regulator is bad, but this is also not the intended use of this voltage regulator (Standard Motor Products #VR-125) I also tried to back fed the voltage regulator with battery voltage to eliminate the 0.28 voltage drop with no luck. Any suggestions?

The voltage regulator that I'm using (since I switched to Mega Squirt) looks like yours and has a screw on the back side that allows me to adjust the voltage output. Does yours have that?

Unfortunately there is no adjustment screw anywhere on my voltage regulator. I would like a adjustable one. Where did you get yours?

I ordered a Transpo c-8313 adjustable voltage regulator. When I get it I'll let you guys know how I made out.

I just looked at mine to get you the number and its a TRANSPO-CN C8313-0203-12v. I thought I'd put the whole number up for future reference if anybody else needs it.

Re: External Voltage Regulator Mod Problem

Well I just finished installing the Transpo C8313 adjustable voltage regulator and all is well, 14.2 battery voltage and no power limit light. Thank you A.J. for the adjustable voltage regulator suggestion. Didn't know that a adjustable regulator was made in the Chrysler Style. Moderators, you may want to add that the Transpo C8313-0203-12v voltage regulator is known to be compatible with the Denso alternator in the knowledge center, external voltage regulator mod.
