I just completed the external voltage regulator mod on my 86 Daytona Turbo Z that has been rewired for a Turbo ll SMEC. Lately I've been having a intermittent charging problem due to a failing voltage regulator circuit within the SMEC. Now I'm getting a power limit light with code 41(open field circuit) and code 46(battery voltage out of range) after completing the mod. I believe that the power limit light is being triggered from the battery voltage being too high now because the light doesn't come on with the voltage regulator unplugged. The battery voltage is high with 15.05V at the battery and 14.77 at the voltage regulator. If I was troubleshooting a over charge I would assume the voltage regulator is bad, but this is also not the intended use of this voltage regulator (Standard Motor Products #VR-125) I also tried to back fed the voltage regulator with battery voltage to eliminate the 0.28 voltage drop with no luck. Any suggestions?
