Project '88 Omni, the Kidney Bean of burden

I was a huge TD nut years ago, having built several Daytonas, a turbo mini, and a few Lebarons. I've also had a couple RT cars I left stock.

I moved on to other things for years, but suddenly find myself thrust back into K-base territory, thanks to an inherited Omni.

So, the story of the car: My grandmother had a GLHS, and couldn't handle the clutch anymore. She had never bought a brand new car on her own (grandfather passed prior to this). She sold the GLHS and traded in the Diplomat on a brand new '88 Omni automatic, non turbo.

The car was garage kept, and rarely driven (only 88k miles on it). Then, her health declined and she quit driving. It sat in her garage for years.

My grandmother has always been my rock. She was more or less my mom. For years, she told me to take the thing and fix it up for my kids. Well, she passed last year just before Christmas, and the car finally came home today with the help of my father in law.

Its rough, but not bad. I promised her I would do something it, so the project begins. I may drivetrain swap it, I may not. not sure yet.

You haven't seen me drive on a track. 😎

So after spending half the night scouring the forum and playing catch up, I'm pretty sure this thing is getting a turbo swap.

So the hunt begins for a donor car.

One question, if I manual swap, do the peddles need to come from an L body, or will the ones from a Daytona or Lebanon work?

Pedals have to come from an L-body.

    http://madison.craigslist.org/cto/5787954863.html

A little expensive for parts car, but it also almost everything you want other than pedals and drive shafts. It has engine, trans, brakes pads, shifter, shifter cables, SMEC, SMEC wiring, etc.

It looks to have an aftermarket header as well. Doesn't looks like it has an intercooler... interesting setup.

I'll call the guy. Looks like an interesting setup with the turbo routed to the front. Thanks for the link!
