    88 t2 motor, what flywheel?

I have an 88 t2 motor from a chrysler TC by maserati, the car is an 89 but its an early build so it got the early motor and not a 89 commonblock t2. Its mated to an automatic from the factory, but im going to use it in a daytona with a 525 as its all i have to use right now. What flywheel will i need? I havent pulled it out yet so im not sure how many bolt the 88 crank should have.

On earilier flywheels, There was a difference between turbo and non turbo pressure plate diameters and bolt pattern. I'm not sure if the later eight bolt flywheels had the same difference.

Re: 88 t2 motor, what flywheel?

    good point ^
I would not expect a turbo clutch to fit a n/a flywheel by simple reason of non com block experiance

I haven't owned any n/a common block motors , just turbo ones so the flywheel /p-plate diameters

being the same or still different , I cannot offer any value as to input

Re: 88 t2 motor, what flywheel?

The 8 bolts were different for a few years, but I don't remember the cutoff. I think it was around 91 they put the "turbo" 230mm clutch on all motors, but don't quote me on that... 91 would make sense since that is when they switched over to large spline transmissions...

I'll do some looking and see if I can find where I read that...

    Edit:

I looked in the parts manuals for 89-92, and in 89-90 they list an N/A flywheel & a turbo flywheel for the 2.5 under separate part numbers. In 91, they only list one flywheel for the 2.5 so I'm assuming that's when they switched over to all running the larger flywheel. The only exception being the 2.2 tbi motor listed a different flywheel part number...

For reference the N/A flywheel is 4471317, while the turbo is 4471319. The 4471319 is what is listed 91+.

Correct. And if you are looking, Rock Auto has brand new ones for about $40... Can't buy a used one & get it resurfaced for that...
