question about using a emulator for tuning

I had 2 different people tell me 2 different bits of information and I want to get the correct answer before I spend any money. I have a 88/89 smec setup. One friend said I can run a emulator and the other said I cant. I was reading through this ( http://www.turbo-mopar.com/forums/kn...trich-Emulator )sticky and it makes me this I can but I would like to be sure first.
    Thanks.

You can use Ostrich to tune your SMEC.

If you just want to use Ostrich, you'll need

I'm guessing that ribbon cable was different than the one that comes in the kit or is it just longer?

Nevermind about the cable, looks like Ostrich comes with an 18 inch one.

is there a reason you went the ostrich route vs the boostbutton products? BB is cheaper and (i think) simpler to use.

No real reason other then tuning on the fly. There will be a learning curve no matter what one I use because this will be the first time I tried tuning. Luckily I have some friends that are willing to walk me through it.
