    2003 Dodge Neon transmission

I have a Dodge Neon with a automatic transmission that has been pretty reliable. It has 193,000 miles on it and I take good care of it. Lately when it makes the shift from 2nd to 3rd gear it shifts with a bump. Trans was rebuilt at 148,000. I probably should get the trans fluid & filter changed, but don't know if that will cure the bump when shifting. Any ideas on cause of bump ?

3-speed or 4-speed? I can't honestly remember if those years got the 40TE.

Still using the original solenoid pack, input and output sensors ?

Well, the solenoid (part # 21909501) was replaced at 28,753 miles while it was under warranty in 2004. But that was a long time ago. Would there be a code to tell me anything ?

In my experiences, there's no code. It will just start shifting funny.

My mother's Stratus one day started to shift HARD into 2nd, no codes, nothing else wrong. New solenoid pack fixed it.

If the rebuild was due to an internal failure the debris from that can find its way into the solenoid pack and clog things up. Even if its not immediately evident at the time it was redone. Also not necessarily the cause of the problem, (more know to occur in the RFE transmissions) a broken circuit trace/cracked solder joint ect on the electronic side of the solenoid pack is not unheard of. However that would most likely throw some fault codes and really act up if that was the case. At ~12~ years old it would not be money wasted to put a new fresh OEM (not a reman or no name ebay special) solenoid pack on there if you intend to keep it awhile longer. There atleast far easier to change and somewhat cheaper than the solenoid pack on the RFE or 42LE/42RLE.
