    Fuel upgrade to '91+ Tank/Pump

From what I have been able to ascertain, in late '90 Chrysler changed the fuel systems changing the following:

    1) Fuel pump asy- added fuel reservoir.
2)Tank -removed baffles (no longer needed w/ reservoir).
3)Pulsator eliminated (reservoir likely muffled pump noise).
4)Fuel lines-incorporated quick disconnects in place of clamps.
5)Return line moved from sending unit asy to pump asy.

    Any input would be appreciated.

Sort of interesting. I had a discussion about fuel tanks a couple of months ago when I was replacing mine, and folks had said that not all fuel tanks have the baffles. I assumed it was because it was cheap chinese sh1t, but maybe there's more to it than just that.

I looked up fuel.pumps and tanks on rockauto to compare. The 1991 pumps do have the built on resivoir and the tanks are a different part number from the 1989 tanks. I compared 1989 and 1990 Daytona.
I saved the tank assembly and fuel lines from the 1991 daytona I parted last year. Now I know why.

From what I've read the change was late '90 but the majority of '90's are old style. I'll post pics when I get the tank(s).

I can confirm that my son's '89 Daytona's tank does have the baffling in it... We bought the car with a blown engine I think the tank was the cause... After we rebuilt the engine, the car would die on left hand turns when the fuel level was low.

The tank had a two piece plastic baffle. The bottom was fused to the tank. The sides kept fuel near the pickup. The sides had become disconnected from the bottom and thus floated around. On turns the fuel could flow away...

The new tank (from RockAuto) has a one piece baffle.

90 was an interesting year. My silver shadow had the later barn shape pass mount, but it had the older fuel tank. It was a special handling unit car so the new mount must have come very early in the 90 production cycle while the tank was later.

No. It was a silver 2.5 TI 5 speed car. I'm always looking for another silver 90 turbo 5 speed car. Either 2.5 or TIV will do it for me. I would absolutely love another one. The rust was enough that I'm not sure how I couldn't feel it in the R/F of the car. It went all the way up the fire wall and ate away a very good chunk of the strut tower.

What brand? Is the baffle plastic or steel?

My CSX also had the plastic baffle, and it too, was no longer attached to the tank. The return line on the sender attached to the baffle.

I bought the assembly from RockAuto. I think it was the Spectra Premium. Yes the baffle was metal.
