    Most important Gauge?

    Hey guys,

So I have a gauge pillar with a empty spot in it and it's making my OCD crawl. I have a wideband in one spot, and I'm planning on replacing the boost gauge in it's factory spot. If I put in one more aftermarket gauge in my empty pillar spot, what's your thoughts on the next most important/valuable thing to have in there? I'm thinking oil pressure, although I hate to be redundant with the main instrument cluster... that would annoy my OCD too lol.

    Thanks!

To me it depends on what you're doing with the car. I like the info a pyrometer provides though.

I put the boost gauge and af in the a-pillar so I can look at 1 spot and see both things. Then I made an aluminum plate to replace the factory boost gauge and info center spot and put in toggle switches for main power and one for accessories and a starter button had spots for driving light toggle and boost control toggle too.

I would agree with this. I make a gauge like this. It can display intercooler drop as a single number and also the actual individual temperatures at the input of the intercooler and the inside of the intake plenum so you know whats going into the cylinders. I had to artificially raise the price to a ridiculous level because its gotten very difficult for me to manufacture them temporarily so I'm trying not to sell any at the moment. But I might be able to make one if someone really wants one. At a much more realistic price.

EGT or WB02 if you're monitoring combustion. I also prefer more information than the factory coolant and oil pressure gauges provide, but don't think they need to be in the line of sight.

thanks for the feedback so far, As I was searching for answers I saw a ton of cool installs, but the gauges themselves vary a ton. This is not a drag car, I hope to do some autoX, I guess I'm primarily looking for early warning signs that something bad is about to happen. I already have a wideband in one of the two spots.

    Re: Most important Gauge?

years ago I noted the 260 or 280 datsuns had three gauges in the middle of the dash

looking closer I noted one was a stopwatch

neat , probably not much good considering old car clocks but neat ..depending what you do with the car something like that might be usefull

EGT. Having that right near the wideband, you've got all of your most important information in one place.

Regarding your comment about oil pressure, I don't trust the stock gauge for daily-driver use, nevermind autocross. So that's another important one to have if you're going to autocross. Naturally, oil starvation is a concern with lots of high revs and hard cornering. Personally, I strongly prefer and would recommend a full-sweep gauge because, even at the edge of my periphery, I can easily see large variations. The short-sweep gauges just don't do it for me.
