    A525 case crack

    Hi everyone,
Found a hairline crack in my A525 case around the starter mounting hole. Anyone see this as a cause of concern? It had been welded once in that area. Pic is located here:

See crack location highlighted in red.

    Thanks, Ralph

Ralph, while I can't make the call on what to do about the crack, be aware that in addition to the 3 bolts that hold the starter in at the nose there's also a support bracket at the back of the starter that gives additional support. That bracket is often deleted by mechanics when replacing the starter.

Yes thanks. I do have tbat extra support bracket installed.

Someone also mentioned that the bolt hole may not be perpendicular to the mounting flange. I think when the case was welded in that location they did not clean up the weld and make the two bolt holes parallel. If that makes sense.

This would cause stress when tightening the bolt.

I looked at picture on a desktop computer today (99% of the time I read and post with my phone). Anyhow I can see that the area where the bolt comes in contact with the case isn't level. I would try to dress it up with a die grinder or a dremel. That may cause stress on the starter nose.
