how to tell if sbec is dead ?

ok so this socketed sbec doesn't trigger the asd relay, replaced it with another and the car runs. is it fried or is it possible its the chip connection? even swapping the chip didn't change anything and it seems like on the other sbec even with a blank chip it would still prime the pump and trigger the asd relay , if the chip was installed wrong (backwards) would it damage the sbec ?

I've installed a chip backwards in an SBEC and got lucky as I hear it can damage them.

I would think it would only damage the chip. Maybe.

A truly blank chip can not trigger the ASD. The code to trigger the ASD is on the chip.

It's possible your socket is bad, and could maybe be repaired. it's also possible the power supply failed. It's fairly common on the SBEC's.

i think there might be a connection problem in the sockets then, the spare has the same zif latch type socket and it will run with the ostrich and lach board in, then no start and you can hear a buzzing sound from the ostrich or sbec with the key off, removing and reinstalling the latch board into the zif socket fixes it untill the next time. (ever heard of that before ?) its possible the connections have corroded form being uncovered or the solder might have dried out since both seem to be having an issue and have the same socket on them

The ostrich can be funky in the SBEC's, I've heard. Are you trying to run the SBEC without the Ostrich being plugged into the PC? I think it's been mentioned that it doesn't work right without being plugged into the PC. But, I'm no expert on the Ostrich.

Re: how to tell if sbec is dead ?

i tried it both ways, it starts either way but then it makes that sound and will not start until the chip is removed and reinserted, soon as i get the parts figured out ill pm you about a custom cal and maybe making a flashable sbec for it, still need to get a set of mopar injectors and new coil to eliminate some variables, this motor is highly modified with header and flat top pistons , ported everything so it really wont run on factroy stuff the only thing that really did make it idle at all was a vnt sbec i had laying around and this is a 2.5 so idk, not even thinking about trying to drive it at this point
