87 Shelby Lancer T2 Sand Rail Help

I am helping work on a Sand Rail that has a motor and wiring harness from a Shelby lancer it runs fine for a second and then goes super rich and rough and most the time dies at idle, it goes from no Fault codes when running fine to 7 when running rough. the OTC scan tool also often looses connection so i am guessing a Bad ECU / power module here are the codes i get

11 No ignition reference signal detected during cranking
24* Throttle position sensor over 4.96V (SEE NOTE #3)

31 Bad evaporator purge solenoid circuit or driver

35 Cooling fan relay circuit open or shorted

42 Fuel pump relay control circuit

46* Battery voltage too high during charging or charging system voltage too low

    53 Logic module internal problem

Anyone had experience with 53 before? is it an bad LM or could it be a wiring issue? or a Power module? I plan on just swapping it to test and hopefully it will run better but my questions are with some of the other codes with the relay codes i once also saw a boost solenoid code too, will any of those will cause running issues? meaning should i try to wire back in some solenoids or resistors because the sand rail doesnt have any.

Make sure your grounds are good. They will do all sorts of odd things with a bad ground. typically a harness ground goes under the left fuel rail bolt looking at the engine from the front. Also one on the car from the firewall to the back of the intake, You probably don't have this one since it's in there sideways. also one to the side of the engine on the right side looking from the front of the engine.

Thanks for the reply, how does one actually check if grounds are good, I check with a multimeter and all points seem connected well to the battery ground. All mounts are solid metal so those are pretty good for grounding.

When hooking up different LM and power module it runs the same but noticed on the scan tool /MPScan that the battery voltage the ecu is seeing is only 9.9-10.1v. I am guessing there is a bad connection / wire on one of the supply wires I need to track down

If you haven't already, I'd check the LM part number and the 3-digit number written on the red connector. I had an '87 CSX once that was returning LOTS of codes and some of them didn't really even make sense. It ran, but like crap.

Turned out it was running an '87 Shelby Charger LM from the previous owner. I swapped in a LM from my SL and it instantly fixed everything.

not to get off topic, but was that buggy built to have the Shelby motor installed or was it fabbed into place... that thing is going to be awesome!

I believe it originally was a VW motor, runs pretty good when it does just chasing electrical gremlins

awesome! ive been trying to talk my friend into this for years! I'm so tired of him rebuilding his stupid 1915 like every year, messing with carbs every trip! he is complaining about too much weight and having to change springs and shocks, I told him you have more into building your crappy vw engine than shocks would have ever cost!

anyways, is it running a Dakota oil pan
