I am not sure that the GLHS mentioned in the article is Carroll's #001 GLHS.
This past week, the folks at Shelby American were in touch with me to ask if I knew any history of 1986 Shelby GLHS #86 which they have and will be selling at auction soon.
They did not mention the #001 car. That doesn't mean they aren't selling it. Only that I know they are selling #86 at this upcoming auction. I suspect the magazine article is speaking about this car, thinking it is "Carroll's car".

so what do we think that 001 glhs would be worth today?
AFAIK the GLHS for sale will be #86 as Barry mentioned. I still cannot believe they are selling CSX2000...

What is the significance of car #86?
None, that I know of. They contacted me because they couldn't recall how they got it and was looking for prior owner info. All I could tell them was that it was originally shipped to Wauwatosa Dodge in Wauwatosa, Wisc (from the VIN list). So it was originally sold to the public and not held back by Shelby Automobiles.

I saw some rumination that #86 might have been in Shelby's collection as well but I cannot corroborate.
It would be a neat # to own, outside of #s 1 or 500 the model year would be my pick.

......or #420
That car is in Wisconsin, used to be mine. The kind lady at the DMV in small town Nebraska asked if I really wanted the plates to read GLHS420. I asked why not? In a hushed tone she said something to the effect of 'it's like you drive a gay druggie car.' Ok, give me the next 6 county plates in your stack.

I dont see any correlation in either part of that plate number to alternative life styles or drugs, do you understand what she meant? it's puzzling to me.
The only substitute for cubic inches is cubic dollars, how fast can you afford to go?
GayLesbianHomoSexual was used back in the day before the current LGBT moniker. The number 420 is a common reference to marijuana.

Wow, I'm old enough I should have known that. I'll be darned.

Auction house lists it at between $40,000 and $60,000. Or in other words about 10x the average going price. Let's see if it makes it.
