    Evan-Fischer fuel tank?

Anybody have any experiences with this brand:

    https://www.amazon.com/Evan-Fischer-...odge%3Adaytona

I always question the cheapest options.

    Re: Evan-Fischer fuel tank?

I looked back through my Rockauto emails and the last tank i ordered was a Platinum Pro which was 'good enough'. Straps never seem to fit the same with replacement tanks but it isn't falling out!

Don't forget to order the filler neck grommet!

    Re: Evan-Fischer fuel tank?

New filler neck grommet is sitting on top of my toolbox already. I thought that's where the leak was originally because it's only leaking after it gets splashed around. Sitting still, even idling, it's fine. Turns out it's the tank.

I was asking about this brand because this is cheaper than all of RockAuto's offerings - and that's before free shipping.

Jon, back in December I ordered a Spectra Premium fuel tank and straps for my 86 Daytona from Rock auto. The fit was perfect and I would recommend it. The tank and straps was under $100 shipped to my door.

I looked at that Amazon link. That tank does not have the fuel pan in the tank thats needed in fuel injection cars. Also it doesn't come with the fuel pump and sending unit seals. The Spectra Premium came with a built in fuel pan, seals, and lock rings.

The rock auto tank I put in the Rampage RT DID NOT have a center well/baffle like the factory tank. anything under 1/4 and it fuel starves around left hand corners I don't remember the brand, been a few years...

Interesting. Reading further down the page, it actually says that there are no baffles in it. Looking back at RockAuto:

    Spectra Premium CR2F
    Baffled Sump: No
    Attached Sump: Yes

    Dorman 576008
    Baffled Sump: Yes
    Attached Sump: No

What the heck am I looking at here??

    Re: Evan-Fischer fuel tank?

Is neither a baffle or a sump. It's basically a pan that holds about a 1/2 a quart of gas and is filled by the return line. The fuel pump sock or pickup goes into this pan ensuring there's always a fuel supply.

It really is annoying when that thing is missing. I think i've got a couple cars that don't have it and they're WAY more susceptible to fuel starvation under hard maneuvers. Maybe fine in a low-strung n/a car but turbo cars like to break under those conditions.

Perhaps use some of that new fuel sock stuff that Holley offers when using a tank without baffles?

    Re: Evan-Fischer fuel tank?

Ok, so I got a little trigger happy the other day and order it in the middle of this discussion. I tried to cancel it, but they said it had already been loaded on the truck. They offer 100% money back within 30 days though.

I think I like what I see though. Here's the view through the pump opening:

And through the sending unit opening:

The tank did include both lock rings and gaskets:

Everything looks like it's there. Now to pick up some roofing felt per Gary Donovan's recommendation and see how it fits.

Good deal. I too used roofing felt as per Gary Donovan's recommention. You may want to paint the exterior of the tank. OEM tank seem to be made from galvanized steel, ware the aftermarket tank's use mild steel.

What is this for? Under the straps? On top?

The felt is a insulator between the top of the tank and the under side of the floor pan.

Thank you, I assume its function is to prevent wearing?

I would have to agree with that. Metal to metal wouldn't be good.

    Re: Evan-Fischer fuel tank?

    No sir it wouldn't be.

I seem to remember the insulation stuck to the body and not the tank when I had it out to install the Walbro. That was also a decade ago and my memory isn't quite what it used to be. I'll find out soon enough regardless.

The description for this tank says it's galvanized. It probably wouldn't hurt to give it a quick spray while it's fresh and new though. Any recommendations for paint? POR-15? Epoxy paint? Cheap stuff?

Well if it's truly galvanized a magnet won't stick to it and there's no need to paint it. However I did hit my non-galvanized tank with 2 coats of Rust-Oleum silver.
BTW you don't have to drop the tank to replace the fuel pump.

    Re: Evan-Fischer fuel tank?

two tricks for "finishing" gal stel

a fellow told my father once when he complained the paint peeled quickly off the old style galvanized evestroughing.. spray it first with engine degreaser suposedly this stops the reaction in the gvanization that caused the paint to peel
this in regards to the house but I never had much of an issue with auto parts

2 my way- I did the galvanized bellhousing cover on my turbo z years ago with a simple spritz of clear laquor

    - the cheep colour match stuff from the big box stores

this lasted quite nicly for years (at least a decade) - the only thing I did first was a really good cleaning with some steel wool and some soap and water
