    Speedometer issues

My R/T started having this issue last year. What would be causing this? I replaced the speedometer sensor last year and it did nothing to help. My ecu via Mpscan is showing the crazy miners also, makes it hard to use cruise!
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

To cover the basics your speedometer gear is in good condition without any chunks missing from the teeth and the electrical circuitry from the sensor to the sbec is solid and verified ?

Check all the electrical connections between the speed sensor and the SBEC, Fleckster had this problem in his Spirit R/T, it was a loose connector that was causing spurious extra pulses on the line...his would peg the speedo and looking on the scanner it would say over 200 MPH...it causes the odometer to advance too quickly too.

Checked the wires yesterday, from the plug to the SBEC, both wires showed no resistance. Will check how tight the wires are when the sensor is attached, have a feeling it could be a loose connection in the plug as well.

Wires are snug when plugged into the sensor. Hoping I won’t have any more issues with this sensor now. Wrapped the wires in split loom and aluminum tape. Gonna run it as is.

    Re: Speedometer issues

Didnt realize at the time being an R/T it is just old enough to still have the two wire sensor.

Someone awhile back did a nice tutorial on switching to the three wire sensor. The upgraded connector at the sensor itself alone is worth the effort to convert it should you run into issues again in the future.

Could be a bad connection going through the firewall/bulkhead connector. But that would probably make it just drop out. Can't see the video in the first post anymore, so don't know what your's was doing.

    Re: Speedometer issues

My above fix on the speedometer wiring is holding up well so far. Have not had any of the weird erratic issues from before, even driven in some pretty wet conditions and no issues.

The gremlins are back again, speedometer is bouncing all over the place. Going to wire in the newer designed 3 wire speedometer sensor this winter.

On a SBECII car, should I be pulling from a 8v or a 5v source? What color wire is the 5v Source on the TPS Sensor?

When I did this conversion on my 89 Daytona, I pulled from the 8V source. Should be an orange wire. On the SMEC, it's on the power board connector. Looks like Pin #7 on the SBEC.

Ok, looks like that same 8v reference goes to the crank and cam sensors.

Yeah, probably. It was used for the HEP on the 8V cars... I always forget the TIII is a unique animal...

    Re: Speedometer issues

I did mine a few years ago and used the 8V supply to power it. That's what the factory used, so that's what I used. It's been flawless since.
