    Day 5 pic:

Mostly backfilled. Going to let concrete harden for a few days while the heavy rain this weekend helps compact the dirt, then do a final filling/grading Tuesday. The slab is scheduled to be poured on Wednesday and then I'm ready for wood.

Pretty quick progress! Thanks for the info on getting it going, I wish I had more flat land for something that big.

It's only dirt Gary - you can make flat land! LOL! To make this area level enough to build on, I actually brought up 3 tri-axles of fill from the field down by the pond.

Day 7 pic - floor all leveled and compacted:

Slab gets poured tomorrow and then some final leveling/grading and this part is done! Called the builders and they're planning on starting Oct. 17, so I have 2 weeks of down time, but I've got another project so I probably won't get to work on the convertible during that time. Right now I'm thinking I'll start back up on the convertible 1st week of November. So probably just more garage pics in this thread for a few more weeks.

    Day 30 - crane day!

The carpenters started the garage raising today. Once they got it all prepped (about 3 hours), the crane started hoisting everything into place. It only took about 30 minutes and all 4 walls were up!

Back wall being craned into place:

Side wall going into place after front and back were placed:

All walls up and roof headers going up (this pic was taken about 30 minutes after the first one where they were lifting the first wall into place...crazy fast!):

I'll update with end of day progress pics. At the rate they're going, I'll have a finished garage by Friday!

    Re: 91 Shadow R/T Convertible

Correction - it's going to be pretty much done by Wednesday!

    Here's day 1 progress:

They said tomorrow they will have the roof and upstairs flooring completed and then they'll do the windows, siding and trim on Wednesday and they're done. I have the electrician lined up for Friday and the garage doors are going to be installed next Monday, so yup, if all goes to plan, I'll be parking cars in there next Tuesday.

Hmmm...election day. Anyone want to vote on which car should go in there first?

I've forgotten now, how many lifts are you putting in?

That leaf litter is nothing - none of the massive oaks in my yard have even started to change color or drop leaves yet!

One lift temporarily. I'll have it in there this winter, but it will be moved into my other garage once I get that modified to be able to fit a lift. The garage is further away from the house and has all my tools and parts in it, so the plan is to have that as the car workshop and this new one will just be for parking. So hopefully the new one will stay shiny new and clean.

They're putting on the trim now and so they're almost done with it! Another couple hours and all that will be left is the overhead door install.

    Parking Garage=Man cave

I think you mentioned Mouse-proofing the parking garage somewhere in the thread? Physically how is that done to the structure? We don't have a bunch of them in Cali-we have rats! Mostly they keep to the attics, eat my tomatoes and fruits in the garden and make noise at night to keep me awake Snap traps that have several loops of yarn with Peanut butter rubbed into it around the trigger are fairly successful.

    Re: 91 Shadow R/T Convertible

I'm the only one who lives here, so the whole place is my man cave...not just the one garage! LOL!

There's nothing special being done to the garage to actually "mouse proof it", but it's new with no holes or any easy gaps for them to get through. So the mouse proofing will just be snap traps and being careful not to keep the doors open so they don't get an easy route in. Plus, as I move each car in, I plan on surrounding it with sticky paper so that any rodents that hitchhike their way in, will be met with a really sticky end of the road when they try to leave the car for food/water. Once I'm sure that car is clean, I'll move the next car into the garage and surround it with sticky paper.

That's probably the best I'll be able to do considering the environment I live in (woods as far as the eye can see).

Mix the peanut butter with oatmeal, it's the gold standard for mice. Took a mammal class in university years ago and that was the one to use. Plus easy to make balls of bait and now

you've got oats and peanut butter together..........yummy!

    Re: 91 Shadow R/T Convertible

OK - pics from day 33 (yesterday):

All that's left to do for the short term is wiring, overhead doors and paint. However, I was shocked when the electrician came out today! Get it? LOL!

Seriously though, I knew the way my house was wired might cause me problems, but I didn't think it was going to be pretty much cost prohibitive to wire the new garage into my existing house. Because of the way my main and breaker are configured, the cheapest way for me to go is to have the power company run a new 200 amp service wire to a separate meter on the garage. Pretty crazy! It's twice what I was budgeting, but 1/3 the cost of trying to hook into my existing breakers in the house.

    Re: 91 Shadow R/T Convertible

O man that looks good! I had to do the same with my garage, the wiring in my house and distance from the main panel made it a better/cheaper option to put in dedicated service in the garage. I don't have anything hooked up to it yet though (after it took months to get finished...)...
