ISO L body manual steering rack coupler

I want to convert my 86 Shelby Charger to manual steering. I can buy a manual steering rack from rockauto, but I need the coupler that goes from the rack to the steering column as I hear the manual steering cars used a different coupler. If you have one, let me know. I would be interested in a used manual steering rack also, if the price and condition are right.

Im under the inclination you can purchase an 80's mustang or mustang II coupler and it works. Also any manual rack will need a frankensteined u joint as the manual column is different than the power column

I have 1 spare coupler, since I live 20 minutes away I might try to run over to Flaming River and see if they at least have a coupler with the spindle part that
matches the rack and see if I can modify the top piece to fit the L body columns.

Go to post #88. Get the 9/16" x 17 spline double joint. Transfer the upper Omni end to one end of the Borgeson unit and you don't have to cut and weld any spline sections.

Re: ISO L body manual steering rack coupler

Looking at RockAuto, it looks like there were two different manual steering racks. 1978-1983 and 1984-1990. It looks like the earlier one mounts different AND has a different splines on the input. So many choices. I'm reading some posts where people swapped in manual racks and didn't have to modify the coupler at all. Do the older racks fit in the newer cars without mods to the coupler??
