So, after running tiny road racing slicks (20x6x13 Goodyears or lately 20.5x7x13 Hoosiers) since 1990 or earlier, I decided that Im tired of changing tires. The first test and tune at Indy a few Weds ago I tried my M/T SS tires that I use to drive it there and back. I was pleasantly shocked that the ETs were about the same and the mph was up slightly! The EGT guage (big digital one with memory) showed a bit over 1400 degrees! The following Sunday was our first pts race and I jetted up the secondary...the larger diameter and heavier tires were needing more fuel for sure. The temps were a bit lower, high 1300s...and ETs were not as consistant as normal, no traction troubles. So the next Saturday I richen up second barrel one more jet...EGTs in the 1370 range and still a bit inconsistant, but better. Sunday comes and I jet it up one more time and hoped for the best...EGTS were 1340s on test and eliminations. Still leaner than I usually run (1290-1300) BUT super consistant...in a 20 degree air swing the car was only .015 difference from quickest to slowest. SOOO, to make a long story short....is 1340 too lean for a few seconds in the qtr mile on stock pistons?
