    16v continued 2nd time

It appears that my original thread has been locked.
    I am not sure why.

Went to the car show on Saturday. The Gtp got more attention then anything else by far.
We won the sponsors award and peoples choice.

I was hoarse from all the talking by the end. And the "is it a kitcar" question got old. Only 1 person recognized it.

Most people were guessing value at $150k. I can only hope that will be true someday!

I am not sure why either so I reopened it and merged them.

    Re: 16v continued

    So saga continues,

Replaced ignition switch, but still would not start.
Fuel pump would run with key in start position, then quit and not hold pressure.
Replaced relays - fuel pump and asd
No change , HotWired the pump, it ran and held pressure but started would not crank!

AJ suggested looking for a bad engine ground strap which I will do later today.
    Any other insights??

Test the starter relay. If that's good and it's getting power then you probably need to replace the starter.

That's the easiest way to test it. If you have power at the relay and the relay is good then it's the starter or actual wiring to the starter. I guess I would do a voltage drop test to make sure the wire to the starter isn't causing a problem before replacing it.

    Re: 16v continued

As per my post in the I need help section , the problem was kind of a needle in a hay stack. ,
2 wires coming out of sbec had shorts leading to the coil. ,
Asd and sensors were fine as was ignition switch.

So that turned out not to be the only issue. The main ground going to the sbec was also corroded inside the shrink wrap. It was intermittently failing to have good contact.
One sbec toasted in the "repair" process.

Taking the beast to Sebring on Monday. , can't wait. There are a couple super high speed WOT turns that will be terrifying./ amazing.
Going to have boost way less then the 20+ I have been running.

    Re: 16v continued

Getting ready to head back to Santa Barbara with the blue car. Looking forward to getting a chance to drive some twisty roads.
Hopefully with out a roll back across the road.
There are monthly autocross's 30 min from where I live.
Havent done an autocross in 20 years , and never in a turbo car.
Boost in this car comes in at around 3k rpm. And comes on HARD.
So my thoughts are to turn boost way way down , and run car this way ( avoid throttle/ power induced oversteer ) , if there are some long straights i could increase the boost.

So please , turbo people , provide some insight.

    Re: 16v continued

The left foot brake becomes mildly problematic if course requires a lot of shifting

But combining both posts , keep it in a lower gear shift less , left foot brake. Very difficult to shift without the clutch in this car , regardless of how well you match revs.

In this car on the track, deep trail braking is likely to set up a spin. So will have to practice with my left foot braking.

If nothing else this will be good "skid pad" practice

At least cones don't hurt as much as tire or concrete barriers. Do they still do autocross out at the fairgrounds? If so, from what I've seen of the area, it's a low speed course, less than 60mph. The consuliers ( specifically Frankenstein ) seem to be more suited to a track day...pbir

The autocross's I will be running in Ventura Ca are an airport/runway course. Evidently some "high" speed sections.

I agree with your assessment- but there are no tracks within 2.5-3 hr from where I work/live in the summer.
So I will try and have some fun anyway i can get it.

Funny , everytime i drive by the South Florida fairgrounds , I think about sneaking (or more mature option - organizing)in and running an autocross course.

Barret Jackson runs a mini- autocross there during the auction. Mainly dealers trying to sell expensive sports cars.

Yeah Sebring has been a blast , Homestead 2nd , Palm Beach a distant third , in terms of fun.

Gonna be in Cali all summer so looking for some other stuff as tracks are all far away there
