    93 2.4L Shadow Part 2 : Project Shadicorn

Part 1: http://www.turbo-mopar.com/forums/sh...4l-DOHC-Shadow - Minus pictures now. Thanks Photosuckit

Well it's been a while and though rather quiet on the forum the voices in my head have never stopped. This will be the continuation of my 1993 2.4l Shadow swap. As you will see the transformation will be big enough that I feel it should be dubbed Part 2 : Project Shadicorn and have its own build thread.

The back story: This car began as a 3.0l shadow that I changed to be 2.4 turbo running a best of 10.79@135.9. Late in the 2012 season I performed a spectacular 1-2-1 shift going down the track which left the car dead on the sidelines. Getting home I couldn't find any mechanical damage except for all the flywheel bolts had come loose. I also lost the crank signal but since I had plans to upgrade the turbo and header I just pulled the engine instead of troubleshooting it at the time. A new acreage, a second kid and a whole bunch of life later and I am finally able to start on things again. What I did find is that when you have 4 years to think about things a simple turbo change has the capability to really explode. The worst part of that time is going to SDAC (Shelby Dodge Auto Club national convention) and taking about possibilities which really make your imagination sore. As a result of discussions at SDAC 25 I made the choice to go RWD and really try to challenge my design and fabrication skills.

In July of 2015 I began the design process and modelling which gets me to where I'm at now. Many, many.......many iterations later I have what I feel is very close to a final design. As you can see there are still missing components but I thought I would start the thread now to allow others to follow in some final stages of the design and FEA as I check off components as complete and ready for fabrication. This will not be as fast as my other build, which still took 2 years, but I hope to come out with something I'm really proud of. My current goal is in the 4-5 year mark so hopefully I can keep everyone interested that long.

For now here are some screen shots. I'll come back and post my current design specs and hopefully be able to answer any questions that may arise. I'm looking forward to the whole process and I hope my mom will be proud.

    Looks pretty darn cool!
This will be epic, and worth a 5 year wait!
Is the plan racecar only, or maintain street worthiness?
Those lower A-arms going to allow much turning in?

Pushrod suspension on a K-car will certainly be a first!

It will still be licensed for the street but it's street-ability may be in question especially with a 4 speed manual. OK for some short drives but there's no way it will ever get driven across the country again not on a trailer.

I'm looking at a max 20deg wheel angle which the lower arms have plenty of room for.

I hope so. That would make things much easier and cheaper.

It's just a car, not even a numbered one. I needed the sale of many of my old parts to fund this one as things are adding up quickly. Pictures and memories will always be there.

I get mine at the "Me Too" store but they seem to be charging me twice the cost for half the cylinders.

The rearend will be a Ford 8.8 IRS with pushrod suspension as well. I figured I should be able to get that designed while I work on building the front. I've worked out the desired specs but that's about it.

Thief! Planning the same setup for my daytona as well. Love to bounce ideas off your head on what you plan to do back there. From the coilovers I have I too will be using pushrod type suspension as well, but likely in a different way than yours.

Regardless, def subscribed and love to see the progress.

After watching several aluminum pumpkins from '00+ Cobras crack under moderate power, I'd seriously consider taking the weight penalty and use a cast iron unit from a Lincoln MKVIII. I haven't kept up with any newer versions, perhaps they've fixed that issue with later aluminum units.

Grab the units out of the 04+ Explorer/Mountaineer. A lot of them came with Trac-Loc stock LSD. That center section was said to be the best one out there now. Very wide rear mounting, the iron units have a double mount up front with a flimsy rear mount directly in the center of the diff cover.

Alos, the Truck unit will be a 31 spline. Many mustangs received 29 spline units, BUT anything can be swapped if you buy a new differential anyway.

Nah, his are too skinny. To be honest, and no insult to JT with hair or anyone else running RPF1s, but they really aren't my favorite rim. What they are is the lightest and best looking for the money. Every time I saw something I really liked it was close to $1000 a wheel......not quite in the budget. I'm still not excited about a silver wheel on a dark blue car but maybe they'll grow on me. But for a 17x10 weighing 17.25lbs you really can't beat the price and they aren't hideous, just not my favorite.

I am using a 31 spline explorer unit. Maybe it will break but for now I'll put it in and see. The 31 spline axles are monster compared to the TD stuff and is what's used in the cobras. The explorer has a different seal diameter but it is larger so I can get cobra axles and put a shim collar on for the seal. I haven't quite decided what I want to do yet for the axles but they will most likely have 930 ends on them. Another possiblilty is welding the 930 ends onto the stock explorer axles and then figuring out the rest. Not sure yet.

I will agree the 31 spline units are outrageous. I even thought about dropping down to a 29 spline since I dont feel my power goal will warrant a 31 spline. But if youre going to build it, over build it right?

Interesting to see what you might do for the rear. I have a few designs Ive planned out but have one in particular Ill likely use.
